Pooja Umashankar (full name Pooja Gautami Umashankar) was born on 25 June 1981 in Colombo, in the country Sri Lanka. She is thus a foreign actress in India. But she studied her school and college in Bangalore. The Mount Carmel College in Bangalore which produces many actresses for Kannada film Industry (Sandalwood) also produced this actress.

Pooja Umashankar is a beautiful south Indian actress who has also acted in one Malayalam, one Telugu films. She is an international actress as she entered into the Sri Lanka’s Film Industry as well. Her mother was Sri Lankan and her father is a Kannadiga (from Karnataka). Thus she can speak in Kannada, English, Tamil and Sinhalese (Sri Lanka’s language).

Puja Umashankar has debuted in Tamil Film Industry (Kollywood) with film Jay Jay in 2003. She has actually started acting in Tamil films with Ullam Ketkumae which was released two years later than her debut film. So technically this cannot be a debut film. She has also debuted in Malayalam Film Industry (Mollywood) with film Panthaya Kozhi in 2007 which was a good hit. Many of her Tamil films did well because of her acting and songs. Pooja Umashankar has also debuted in Sri Lanka’s Film Industry called Sinhalese film Industry in 2005 with film Anjalika. This film was a great success for her career and she became a very popular actress in Sri Lanka. She did more Sinhalese films in 2007, Asai Mang Piyabanna and Yahaluvo.

Puja Gautami Umashankar has also debuted in Telugu film Industry (Tollywood) with film Nenu Devudni which is dubbing of Tamil film Naan Kadavul meaning I am God released in Feb 2009. This film is a wide hit in the Tamil Film Industry at the box office as well as at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Pooja playing the role of a blind girl, against popular Tamil actor Arya as Rudran (hero) in the film, did the role so well that she looks too ugly in the film and too natural. She got a Best Female Character Artiste Award because of this film. But she is not really ugly as the film shows.

She is currently acting in Drohi film and Goa film which also has popular South Indian actress Sneha now showing in a bikini.

Pooja Umashankar is a beautiful South Indian actress who almost always wears traditional Saree costumes. She has also acted in “Netru, Indru, Naalai”, a famous Tamil film director Mani Ratnam’s stage show. She is also a judge in a reality dance show programme Aatam Paatam Kondatam in Kalaignar TV channel.
