Celebrity

How celebrities became popular in America.

A celebrity is a widely-recognized or famous person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. The increase of celebrities protruded in the 1920s. There are many reasons as why this may have happened. With the cinema and movies becoming more and more popular people started to admire the actors in the films. Radio was also becoming huge at this time, and many radio stars were made. Another huge factor in up and coming celebrities was sports. With media becoming bigger and bigger, professional athletes could be admired from people across the country, because they would hear about them on the radio. Babe Ruth is a prime example of this. Charlie Chaplin was a famous actor of the time who starred in many “silent” films, where there was no sound to go with the movie. I think this was a harder job than the actors now because the “silent” actors had to show all there emotion through actions not sound. The entertainment industry was just getting started up and it gave site to many new jobs and business.
