Celebrity Status and the Human Condition

Celebrities, who seem to enjoy an elevated level of the human experience, often struggle with the same problems that face us all. The human condition is an inescapable phenomenon that all humans must face alike. No elevation of status, no physical attainment, and no level of monetary success changes this truth.

Celebrities seem to be all the rage. They have entertained us, annoyed us, impressed us, and convinced us to admire them, adore them, and sometimes hate them. Some of us even attempt to model our lives after them. But what really makes them so special? Beyond the flashing lights, the glizt, the glamour, and all of that insane wealth that they seem to enjoy, what is really going on?

If you wanted to know what it feels like to be a celebrity, you would have to ask one. However, more than likely the only answer you would get would be the celebrities viewpoint on the human experience. You see, we as humans have no way of experiencing the world outside of the scope of human emotion and perception. Celebrities are no different. The only thing that changes with celebrities, is that their celebrity experience has either magnified or depressed the human experience. We all know celebrities who seem to be closely in touch with their human nature. They are those that continually express their love for their fellow man. But we also know celebrities who are extremely out of touch, and with those we know that they are experiencing a depressed level of human experience.

There is nothing that can remove the human nuances that flow deep within our selves. No elevation of status among our peers can do it. We will still see the world through the human viewpoint. If you wanted to know what the world looked like from the human experience, you wouldn’t have to go far. You could ask anyone. In reality, you only need to look within yourself.

Even celebrities feel the cold emptiness that sometimes haunts the human soul. They too experience the need to fill the void in their lives. At the end of the day, when all the lights go out and we are most alone, we are all the same. When we are seperated from that world that only exists in the daytime, our hearts all experience the same feelings. We all long for something more, something that will fill the void. Some of us falsely assume that if we had more money or more status, then we would be satisfied. However, when celebrities lay their heads on their pillows at night, they are the same as us. They still feel what we feel. Many of them feel that celebrity status hasn’t brought them everything that they might have hoped for, whether they wish to admit it or not.

    Hi Onemind, how are you?
This is a poignant look at the equality that all humans must face with each other. As you said, some choose to ignore it, others choose to embrace it. To get at the heart of the matter is as implied in your piece, the real issue. Thanks for sharing.

This is deeply insightful. It’s so coherent and the ideas flow nicely. Very well written. I like what you said about life either being magnified or depressed (the human experience). I think that the celebrity typically has it worse than the rest of us simply because he/she is faced with pressures — and temptations — that most of us aren’t exposed to (at least not to that extent). Thanks for posting this.
