Television personality David Letterman is among a long line of public figures whose personal lives have become fodder for the public. Letterman recently announced that he was the intended victim of a $2 million extortion plot.

Letterman announced on his show that he had given testimony to a grand jury that acknowledged having engaged in sexual relations with members of his staff.

Robert “Joe” Halderman, a CBS producer has been charged with first-degree attempted grand larceny. He had threatened to go public with news of these incidents unless he was paid $2 million to remain quiet.

Letterman turned the tables on the alleged extortionist and according to some public relations experts has done an exceptional job of dealing with what could have been a public relations nightmare.

His explanation on his television show about this incident appears to have been received quite well by the public. It remains to be seen what the final outcome will be but if early appearances are any indication he appears to be doing quite well, at least as far as the general public is concerned.
