Edward Cullen of Twilight– Why The Colossal Fascination?
Why is half the female population of this world madly consumed with the Edward Cullen fever? And why is that, this virus is not only limited to the teenagers and pre-teens but haven’t spared the more mature sensible, women and even our frail and older grand moms?

When Stephanie Meyer first created the character of Edward Cullen in Twilight, maybe she didn’t realize that she was giving birth to someone who will become the dream man of every girl and the nightmare of every man. The reason Edward Cullen features in every woman’s dream is not because of Robert Pattinson’s dreamy, mysterious eyes or because of his hot, attractive looks. The reason he has become the inspiration for many romance novel heroes is because he is the ultimate package, a guy whom a mortal man can never dream to match. Fortunately there is no real Edward Cullen, because if there was, men would have a no-win match in their hands.
The most attractive quality in Edward is probably that he is a vampire. From ages, women have been attracted towards the forbidden and a vampire takes the cake among all the bad guys out there. They are the seducers, the creatures of the dark who have held women fascinated throughout the centuries. But the fact that Edward of Twilight is not your typical, fangs displaying, blood sucking vampire and who actually doesn’t kill humans, renders his persona an angelic quality. He is a strong, devilishly attractive, powerful alpha male who has the ability to read minds and the best of all, he will stay like this forever, never growing old and will never die. He can travel with the speed of the wind, take you to the topmost branch of a tree in the blink of an eye, and he is indestructible, what more can a girl want?
Edward’s undeniable lust for Bella’s blood and his uncontrollable desire for her is something which every woman would want for herself. And yet, he has the strength to control his dark desires and to keep her safety as his first concern. His endearing old school thoughts and his inner struggle to control his urges to quench his thirst for Bella’s blood makes a woman feel envious of Bella.
Unlike the mortal man, Edward will not be spending his free time in front of the television watching the soccer matches or spending weekends with his friends’ drinking and cracking jokes. He will probably take Bella on a romantic trip to some place like Italy and fascinate her by telling about its history. He will not be fighting with her over something as silly as the television remote and she will not have to repeatedly ask him to put the toilet seat down. He has knowledge about everything starting from history, to arts and he is a great piano player and composer of music. He is not of this century and treats women like ladies, he is chivalrous and charming and yet in spite of all his capabilities he is so self-deprecating that it makes him downright adorable.
Edward never sleeps instead he spends his nights watching Bella sleep. Is there any other way a girl would want to spend her nights but being watched by someone she loves while she sleeps in his arms, feeling completely safe and protected? His entire existence revolves around Bella, he will love her with the same intensity till eternity and she doesn’t have to worry about him having another affair. He will protect and cherish her with his life and she doesn’t have to worry about getting mugged or raped ever in her life. The fact that Edward loves Bella so deeply and is old-fashionably possessive about her and yet when he knew that another man could probably give her much more than what he could, he was willing to let her go.
So, no wonder everyone is consumed with the Edward Cullen fever which has turned women across the worlds into wannabe Bella Swans, age no bar. No matter how unrealistic this allure is, dreaming has no limits of reason, right? And luckily for all men, the only competition they have is with a figment of someone’s imagination and sadly for all women, that imagination will never turn to reality.
