Four Hot Girl Groups That Changed Pop Culture Forever

We’ve seen girl groups come and go. Some are overnight sensations, others reverberate throughout the decades. Fact is, pop culture is never really complete without girl groups. As you read through the list below, try to see how many among the girl groups can you still remember.

The Spice Girls

Because we already mentioned the phrase ‘girl power’, let’s start with the Spice Girls. Who would ever forget this highly sensational British girl group which rocked the pop music industry in the mid-90’s? If you’re an adolescent female during those days, you probably remember the various fads and fashion trends that arose from the Spice Girls phenomenon. Victoria Beckham’s thick and overly steep high heels, Geri Halliwell’s layered hair, and Emma Bunton’s double sided pony tail became very popular among teens. In those days young guys also collected Spice girls posters and wallet sized pictures, and endlessly debated on who’s the hottest member. Ok, some middle aged and not too young people have been known to do that too, but I won’t get into that. Bottomline is, icons in pop culture can have immense effects on society in general.

With a hit single entitled “Bootie Call”, you would know the exact reason why this girl group flourished in the pop world (just from the title itself). It’s all about sex appeal, really. That’s the underlying X factor behind all succesful girl groups. If a group is able to rouse the interest of the market by tickling one of human being’s most basic psychological and emotional tendencies, then ka-ching…another pop sensation. Nevertheless, we should also give fair notice to the talent of this girl group. Each one of them can sing and dance well. At least we can give credit for that.

Destiny’s Child

Composed of Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, the group Destiny’s Child conquered pop music history by having sold 50 million records worldwide. To date, they are considered as the best selling female group of all time. They became well known for hit singles such as “I’m A Survivor” and “Independent Woman” (which became a soundtrack for the modern Charlie’s Angels movie). What most fans don’t know is that Destiny’s Child started out way back in 1990, performing in underground circles under a different name – Girl’s Tyme. However, when the girl group became popular in mainstream music in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, they changed their group name and relieved some of the oiriginal members as well. Only Beyonce and Kelly remained from the original Girls Tyme group, and both also attempted to have a solo career. Beyonce has the most successful solo career so far.

The Pussycat Dolls

The “Pussycat Dolls” is a term synonymous to a burlesque dance troupe in Los Angeles, California, which regularly performed in a local joint of the same name. Later, the same concept gave birth to the idea of forming a pop/dance singing sensation. The girl group Pussycat Dolls was later formed, which was composed of Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Melody Thornton, Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar. The group became an overwhelming international success and became regarded by critics as a “modern sex symbol”. To this very day, the Pussycat Dolls continue to conquer the music charts in over 96 countries. (Jaiho!)

I want to give a ride to all these girls in my brand new MUV, Mahindra Xylo. It is so spacious that all of them will fit in if they just cramp through. If not I’ll take turns and ride with eight of them at one time. no Problems, I’ll do as many trips as required but please let me take you for a drive girls. My car Xylo ( http://www.mahindraxylo.co.in) will be so happy if I can get to take these POP girls out for a drive. LOL
