Helen Keller: A True Author
Many people do not know that Helen Keller was in fact an author. Though blinded before the age of two, she was a very successful person.
Helen wrote a book in 1908 titled The World I Live In. In her book she talks about what her world is like to live in. Rather than being upset about her blindness and deafness, she writes about how much she uses touch to understand life. She talks about how her sense in touch is greater than most people because of her deaf blindness. “For in touch is all love and intelligence” is a quote from this book.
Helen’s books showed society that as long as you chase your dreams, anything is possible. Basically saying that if a deaf blind person could write books than anything is possible. Just the fact that Helen Keller, who was basically disconnected from her most reliable senses, had the ability to understand the qualities of human life and the ability to connect with others, is simply amazing. Helen believed in equality for all. That is why she was a part of some women equality groups. Helen had improved the lives of many people. The majority of these people would be blind and/or deaf, or possibly someone going through a hard time. It is truly remarkable that just one person could change so many lives in such a positive way.
When most people think of Helen Keller, they think of a deaf blind woman and maybe a joke or two they’ve heard but most never realize how important her role was to society. She was a deaf blind person that could speak, write, teach, and most of all, encourage others to do the best in what they do. Helen was truly a remarkable person and it definitely shows a lot of character that she never gave up through all her disabilities.

I read a book by Helen Keller in the early 60s. I don’t remember the title but I remember her to be blind but hardly remember if she was also deaf. She was a favorite. She always rings a bell.
