Is Rod Stewart Really Old?
Some thoughts on the man and his music.
How old is Rod Stewart? Who cares, so long as his music continues to entertain and reach out to many. In real life, he was born in 1945, which I am glad to say makes him older than I am (not many people are, these days). But he is the epitome of that old cliche, “You are only as old as you feel” because it would appear, that Rod, like me, feels about 20-22 years old on a good day.
While I must admit that watching aging rockers strut their stuff and trying to look lithe and sexy has little to recommend it, Rod Stewart is somehow timeless in his ability to do just that, as well as captivate with his songs. In particular, I love the old stuff, like “Sailing,” “The Killing of Georgie,” oh, anything from his brilliant “Mandolin Winds” album. I do not want this to turn into a big list, but there are so many more.
Where this man is concerned, we should not be asking how old is Rod Stewart but thanking the fates for keeping him going, for his personality, his creativity and his vitality. You just do not measure those in years or the passage of time, you just be glad he gives them, eternally maybe? Sure, there are wrinkles and obvious use of the hairdresser’s art, and maybe he creaks in the morning when he gets out of bed, something we do not have to witness and which we forget about the moment he walks on stage. Way to go, Rod, however young or old you are. Stars shine for a long time, you are one of the brightest.
