Both in their own way prove they could be successful at first as a duo. And separately they was shocked that they could it alone. They suffer from what all successful acts does. The so call “I DON’T NEED YOU” syndrome that will always be in show business. But together they became one hot singing comedic act in Hollywood. And separate Lewis struck gold with his oddities of picture.
And Martin, slowly caught on with producers as a great or good actor. Thanks to his dramatics parts more than his comedy scenes. In Rio Bravo, along with Ricky Nelson, they sung a beautiful rendition of My rifle, My pony, and me. It finally been that Mister Martin, might have been connected to the mafia, as it has always been said about his friend Mister Sinatra. But it really wouldn’t surprise many, maybe some, but not a majority of us.
Just glancing into the mob you’ll find they was in every area of the Hollywood circle. And music business back in the day. It’s like the federal agents wasn’t trying to collar them just investigate their connections. And when Lewis career dipped toward the mid sixties. Dean Martin exploded into a hit variety show and hit records.
And his movie career was to the point he could chose roles he wanted. But he’s under rated for some reason or another in my opinion. But was a very successful business man with good advisers. And as they aged and Lewis put his heart into his telethon. It was great to see a old friend intervention in getting them together on the Jerry Lewis fund raiser. Frank Sinatra, bought two great guys together. And I’m sure Martin, probably was reluctance at first. Mainly. because he wasn’t sure if Lewis would have felt comfortable. But he came and they hug and smile.
Men who part on bad terms usually do better then women coming back together to visit old times. Why I can’t say? But I stand correct with all this animosity you see when women acts break up. We speak out of anger first. And it take time for them to slowly let it go. And over time I guess the great comedy act had let certain aspect died out.
