Kanye’s Biggest Embarrassments: Yo Taylor And More
A selected list of Kanye West’s many displays of idiocy.
Much has been made of the Kanye West/Taylor Swift VMAs debacle. For those not in the know, I’ll outline it briefly. While Taylor Swift was on stage receiving her award for Best Female Video, Kanye West felt the urge to accompany her on stage. While she was performing her acceptance speech, Kanye took the microphone off her and proclaimed that “Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” Naturally, Taylor Swift was devastated. Luckily, Beyoncé won the Best Overall Video award and invited Taylor back on stage to complete her speech. If you didn’t already know this though, I must admit to being quite shocked.
This wasn’t the first time that Kanye West made a fool out of himself though. Here are a few other incidents that are similar to the VMAs scandal.
Kanye West is “the voice of this generation.”
That’s right, Kanye West firmly believes that he will go down as the “voice of this generation, of this decade.” Clearly he is not at all egotistical, which is fortunate. I am, of course, being sarcastic. He claimed that he would be to this generation what “Michael Jordan” was to the previous generation. Not only did he make a complete fool out of himself, he also gave the rest of us a good old hearty laugh. Luckily, no-one was actually insulted as a result of this ego-inflated outburst, unless Michael Jordan should feel insulted being mentioned in the same sentence as Kanye West.
Kanye West is “the new Kurt Cobain.”
Once again, another statement by Kanye West that a small minority (or most of the Earth’s population) would disagree with. West claimed to be “doing pretty good as far as geniuses go”, in an interview with Tim Westwood. He claimed to be “going down as a legend.” While he was in the mood, he also decided that he is would come out with a silly remark, claiming “I am the new Jimmy Hendrix. I am the new Kurt Cobain.” He also claimed that if the Bible was rewritten, he would appear in it.
Kanye West is the “king of all videos.”
Kanye West’s loss in the MTV Europe Music Awards with his video “Touch The Sky” (and his related outbursts) are quite famous. Kanye West claimed that “It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a helicopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award.” Perhaps he should learn that the key to winning a music video award isn’t to want it really bad, but to actually make a good video. Hiring Pamela Anderson, does not a great video make.

As much as people hate Kanye he can still rely on people who actually know anything about good music to confirm that he is indeed one of the greatest.
