Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn
by My friend and I were sipping our coffee and having a discussion about successful relationships. In vain, we tried to think of a happy couple and on a personal level, no one sprang to mind. One of the most adorable, celebrity couples for the last three decades has got to be Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, second only to Paul Newman and his beautiful bride.
So many of us have tried and failed at relationships, while select few have what it takes to have the longevity of an eternity. What, exactly, does it take to make a good relationship? As any good chef will tell you, any good recipe starts with the best ingredients.
Most of us are able to have a private life but celebrity couples don’t have that luxury. Their dirty laundry is put out there for everyone to see and when there is nothing to print, someone makes something up. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell will rarely be found in a scandal magazine. Why? Because they are not scandalous. When they do show up on the Red Carpet together or in another venue, there is never an ounce of distaste or displeasure of any kind on either of their faces. They stand together as a united front and are never disrespectful to one another in public. There doesn’t seem to be any of the competitive, oftentimes even combative, behavior we have witnessed with some Hollywood couples.
What is the “it” that has made a relationship like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have last for all these years? I think the “it” is simply that they acknowledge and try to fulfill the other’s relationship requirements. All relationships must have certain requirements met by each partner to make it successful. Things like love, sex, goals, mutual respect, loyalty, honesty, etc. These are the structure to any successful relationship. Beyond that, we all have personal requirements. No dirty socks on the floor, no overnight travel, no phone calls when on vacation, etc. These personal requirements are negotiable to some degree with our partners and when we care about each other enough, like this couple clearly does, then the magic happens.
The thing I like the most about Goldie and Kurt is their light. They are blessed and they know it and it shines in them like an energy. There seems to be no arrogance or conceit in them and I, personally, I would love to see them in another movie together. Thank you for sharing your quiet magic with the world you lovely people!
