Michael Jackson and Elvis
A brief essay about Elvis and Michael addiction.
Michael Jackson a singer just like Elvis. Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll and Michael Jackson was the King of Pop and yet these two singers share the same fate.
Elvis and Michael in the end both died from overdoses of prescription medications. They were both addicts in the very sense of the word. The music industry took a toll not only on these most famous players and it will continue to take its toll on others that follow.
Michael is said to have started taking prescription drugs after he was hurt recording a Pepsi commercial. Elvis history is unclear. The truth behind Elvis will never truly be known. One thing everyone agrees on in regards to Elvis’ death is that he did overdose and it was prescription drugs.
Elvis is said to have sold over four million records. He had fifty three Gold Singles; twenty seven of them went Platinum and seven of them certified as multi-platinum. The King of Rock and Roll is definitely an understatement when it comes to the man’s life. Truly all the recording companies made their millions from him and his records are still being sold today. The King of Pop is no different. His records will go on and he did rightly achieve the title of The King of Pop.
What about Elvis and Michaels personal lives? They both worked hard to get their music and tried to maintain control of their work. They both achieved what few of us will ever achieve in our live times but at what cost. These men became addicted to drugs with help from their doctors or should we say the greed of their doctors. The music industry needed them to perform when they were physically not capable.
Doctors involved in both cases were many. If the singer was unable to get the drugs he needed from one doctor he simply went to another doctor. The doctors involved in some cases did not know about the other doctors the singer had been to and they were not aware of the medications prescribed. The prescriptions were a cocktail of doom that eventually lead to each mans’ death.
Elvis and Michael were both trouble souls. Elvis is said to never have gotten over the loss of his mother. Michael’s troubled soul came at the hands of an overbearing father according to media reports. It is clear that both men lead and had very troubled lives. Michael for his part sent almost a decade trying to recover from media reports of his alleged sexual abuse of a minor in his care.
The Nation mourns as Michael Jackson is finally put to rest. The King of Rock and Roll and The King of Pop can Rock, Roll and Pop on Heaven Door.
