Michael Jackson – King of Pop Icons

Icons are very special and the manner by which they are risen above the fray is not always a pristine pathway to stardom or eternity.

To be an icon is to have a profound affect on the lives of more than just an immediate fan base. An icon’s influence is measured not by the number of records sold or movies made but how their work has touched the soul, creating emotional and intellectual discourse. True icons change the way people behave, they way they think and the way they live; all due to a respective connection towards this rare individual’s persona and ethereal talents.

Michael Jackson is to be considered the last great icon of the 20th century as evidenced by the scope his achievements has inspired and impacted an entire planet, even if you weren’t a fan. Talented as a singer, songwriter, dancer and musician, Jackson was an innovator in the fields of music, film, television and in some ways, morality. His groundbreaking videos continually pushed the envelop of technical wizardry while his music created a bridge between cultures, religions and sound itself.  Perhaps the first entertainer of color to completely obliterate racial borders by crafting a source of entertainment that could not be categorized, copied or ignored.

Controversy will always surround those that dare to be different and step upon the razors edge of conventional wisdom or even common sense. Michael was seen as many things to many people; eccentric entertainer, sheltered man-child, musical genius or demented predator, however considering the surreal make up of his life it should be noted that with every story recounted within the soiled pages of tabloid hyper-pole there is always more to it than what is brought to print.  Controversy will always surround those that dare to be different and step upon the razors edge of conventional wisdom or even common sense. Icons become so because they see the world in terms of discovery and enlightenment, a core sense of self by which they steer their lives in the quest for a perfection that only fools and dreamers could ever hope to achieve.  Michael desired to create a place of love and harmonic equilibrium while fighting salivating dragons at his doorway and the screaming demons within his soul.
