One last ride?
Michael Jordan Coming Out Of Retirement
I thought it was a joke when I heard it on the radio this morning. Michael Jordan playing in the NBA again? What is he, 50? (47, actually. I looked) A publicity stunt to coincide with his purchase of the Charlotte Bobcats? But no, after Googling the subject in several forms, it looks like his Airness is actually going to attempt a comeback next month with the Bobcats.
And why not? George Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer at 45 to win Boxing’s Heavyweight Championship. You think back to his 2001 comeback with the Washington Wizards; he may not have been the Michael Jordan of old, but he was still an all star player. Can he do it again at 47? And should he?
Again, why not? This is Michael Jordan. All due respect to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, but Michael Jordan made the NBA what it is. This league was built on his back. If he wants to do this, he should have every right. If there has ever been a man that a sport owed something to, it’s Michael Jordan. If he wants to lace them up for one last run, then he should. Ratings should be spectacular, if nothing else.
Don’t expect much. At 47, we wont be seeing any 50 point games. But wouldn’t it be cool, just one last time, to see number 23 fly? Take of, M.J. As the greatest to ever step onto a court, it’s still your show.
