Mirror Mirror on The Wall, Who is The Biggest Diva of Them All?

The original definition of a Diva, referred to a female operatic star, someone of immense  talent. 

Nowadays a Diva is known as someone (male or female) who is normally famous, extremely wealthy and makes outlandish demands on the lesser mortals ie. the fans who put them where they are in the first place.

Here is my list of Diva’s, accompanied with their own Diva rating.

• Jennifer Lopez

Our Jenny from the block, who desperately wants us all to believe that she is really still “one of us”, and is down to earth is one of the biggest Diva’s on the planet!  In June 2008 she took her entourage of body guards on a so call shopping spree at a boutique in Manhasset’s Miracle Mile.  The Diva initially demanded to have the boutique closed to the public so that she could shop alone, and then escalated to wanting a 50% discount on anything that she wanted to purchase!  Does that sound like a normal down to earth person to you?  I don’t think so.

• Mariah Carey

Mariah enters the Diva list for her imaginative demands.  Mariah’s demands include requesting a £50,000 antique table being flown from New York to the UK, so that she could sign autographs at a London department store; requesting a £1,000 throne to sit upon which had to be surrounded by roses and butterflies and even requesting a chauffeur for her dog!  Talented, beautiful but outrageously eccentric with her demands.

• Diana Ross

Diana Ross is one of the original Divas and not one to be messed with.  Incredibly beautiful, talented with outstanding singing abilities, but unfortunately spoilt with a very bad attitude and even worse temper.  Diva moments include demanding that her staff call her Lady Diana, ordering her backstage workers to not look at her directly in the eye, sacking all of her staff due to a bad article in the press and wanting to name the island she had purchased Diana Island.

• Elton John

Elton John, once known for his funky glasses, crazy costumes and massive platform boots, went to bed one night a great entertainer, and woke up a grumpy and extremely pompous Diva.  I cannot dispute the fact that Elton is a fantastic singer and lyricist, but it is such a shame he metamorphosed into the Diva from hell.  Diva moments include spitting the dummy out when police stopped his car and made him walk 50 yards to reach his dressing room in Wembley Stadium (the road had been closed due to security reasons),  immediately leaving France as an Elton fan waved and called out to him whilst playing tennis & asking hotel staff  “can’t you do something about the wind”, because it was a little bit breezy!

Love them or loathe them, unfortunately Diva’s are here to stay.. I wonder when I’m a famous author, what demands I will be making?
