Missing Actors
Some thoughts on the actors I miss over recent years.
Their performances were historical and they knew how to move their audiences, this is why one is continually intrigued by their lives. When their images still come up on screens and redefined DVDs it is as if they have become immortalized. So it is with the greats of the last century. The ones that have come up recently seem like tinsel compared to them. The grand quality of past greats has been lost for the most part and one is left with a load of boorish, immature characters.
One can go back to the Hitchcock standards and the actors that graced the screen then, the Jimmy Stewarts and Grace Kellys, the Kim Novacs and the Robert Cummings. They are largely missed I think for their honest performances and true to life characters. Sure the scripts have changed since and much more has been focused on the special effect and less on the story but there are still people who will pay big dollars for a good treatment.
The few actors that are still alive and around ninety won’t be acting any time soon, perhaps they might do some special appearance like Bob Hope did in his later years. There are events where they socialize that one cannot negate, where they get out, mingle and stay in the public eye. Jerry Lewis still does appearances as did Tony Curtis before passing away recently. Zsa Zsa Gabor has recently had part of her leg amputated, she is in her early nineties and one can see that she still leads an active life. But there are moments when it would be nice to see them as they were on the silver screen years ago, with all their zest and good humor.
It is time for another Hitchcock one who can return the thriller to the screen and use actors in their best to create an intriguing plot. There are enough new ideas around that studios can produce films with original scripts so that one does not have to see another True Grit. Nothing against a good remake especially if the story is worth recreating and the actor fits the role. And blockbuster films are not necessarily the answer when it comes to getting a good story out there.

Good article, but there are still some good films being made. I thought The Green Mile was very well done, much more about the performance than the FX. I loved the story line and the inclusion of the mouse was a nice touch. I admit that I like old music and films because they ARE better.
