We always say that we are living in a paternal world where men rules. We see that most of our leaders in our nation are men and our leaders in our religion are men. But women are now playing important roles for the society.

I have listed 11 of the most outstanding woman that I know. Hope they will inspire you and all the women in the world to do better and be a significant element of the society.

Blessed Virgin Mary

In Christian belief, Mary was chosen by God the Father to bear the Messiah or the Redeemer of his people from sins. For most women, Mary is the symbol of purity and chastity.

Mother Theresa

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu or Mother Teresa was so blessed to be called a “Living Saint” because she abandoned wealth and power to serve the poor, the sick and the dying people. This work was not limited to her people but to the different nationalities around the world. She is also the nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India.

Maya Angelou

Marguerite Ann Johnson also known as Maya Angelou is another good figure in this list. I came across with this name through a literature class. She is a renowned poet. Her book of poetry Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water “Fore I Die was nominated on the Pulitzer Prize. Later on, I came to know that she is also an actress and an important figure in the American Civil Rights Movement.

Oprah Winfrey

Who will not know Oprah Gail Winfrey? This American TV host is a very influential one. Whatever or whoever became her guest or topic in The Oprah Winfrey Show will for sure move to its fame. And of course Emmy Awards would not miss this achievement for she already earned an Emmy Award more than once. Aside form this, she is known to be a very good book critic, a magazine publisher and an actress. She is considered to be the richest African American.

Now she is a dream come true. We all thought that it is only in fairy tales that a commoner has a chance to become a prince or a princess. She proved that to be wrong. She was just an ordinary nurse who came to be Diana, Princess of Wales. She was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. Their sons, Princes William and Henry (Harry), are second and third in line to the thrones of the United Kingdom and fifteen other Commonwealth Realms.

Liliane Bettencourt may sound unfamiliar to us but she was named to be the richest woman in the world! Forbes magazine estimated her wealth in 2008 at $22.9 billion.

Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark

This powerful woman is the Supreme Commander of the Defence Forces and Head of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church. She is also a linguist and has made translations in several genres. The Queen was also triumphant in delivering her traditional New Year Message with a strongly personal touch, which has helped to strengthen her popularity.

She was known to be the Philippine President who fought to bring back democracy to the country and to end the regime of Marcos. With this she became a world-renowned advocate of democracy, peace, women’s empowerment, and religious piety.

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is a junior United States Senator from New York, and a current candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 presidential election. If she won this election, she will become the first woman president of the United States of America.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Marie Alba is an American television and film actress. She is on this list for she was considered a woman blessed with a perfect slender body that allows her to have the perfect walk.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Aishwarya Bachchan came to be known as the most beautiful woman in the world. She is an internationally renowned Indian actress. Before she entered this career she became a model and won the Miss World Beauty Pageant in 1994.

    A good list, but I have to disagree with a few women on this. I guess it depends on how one’s perceive what’s inspiring to oneself..

    ooopppsss! u shouldnt include aquino on the lists. yes! she was the first president of the phils. but she never fought of her fellow filipino (for democracy). how people in their properties losts their family members and died because they were murdered by her family. she knows all about it, but what??? she did nothing! greed people!
