Nike and Vick Together Again

Nike and Michael Vick together again.  The buzz not only in the sports world but also  the news world is Michael Vick signing a new contract with Nike.  Just 64 days into the NFL season it seems Michael Vick has returned with a clean slate.  Did everyone forgive and forget that quickly, do companies believe Vick is such a hot topic that it will boost there sales?  Vick’s extensive criminal record is not hard to forget.  Should everyone be reminded of the horrific deaths some of the dogs faced.  Vick may claim he did not take part in some of the activity but it was on his kennels, his property, and his name.  Would you buy a jersey with Vick’s name.  Would you be proud to wear it. 

It is a shame  in today’s society how money proceeds over value of life.  Some may argue they were only dogs.   A dog lives, breathes, eats, and sleeps just like us.  Does that mean there disposable, they don’t deserve the love of a person?  What message does this send to our society?  Vick was given a special talent playing football, he has made a very lucrative income doing something he loves.  Does that mean he deserves special treatment, should he be able to return to his world he once had and forget the cruelty those dogs faced.  If this were an average Joe, returning to work would not be so easy with such a criminal record.  Think of the struggle that person would go through, yet Vick has waltzed right back to where he was.

If Nike wanted to step up to the plate and be a real company then they should consider donating a portion of there funds to stop the prevention of animal cruelty.  That may make there message of forgiveness seem a little bit more sincere.
