Oh Whitney!

Who is Whitney Houston…really?

Whitney Houston; Disaster Area

Years ago, when her career was just beginning, Whitney Houston was the subject of one of those ‘in depth’ interviews where she’s followed around by a camera crew and gets to sit on a sofa and pontificate.

Watching this presentation with me was a seven year old who at the end said;
“She sings good but her life is stupid.”

Out of the mouths of babes…

One of the things the public will reject is when some ’star’ packages him or herself as what they are not; hence when Ingrid Bergman played a nun in the movies and the people found out she had an illegitimate child for
another actor, she was scorned.

Whitney promoted herself as a decent Christian girl, wholesome and sweet, although the interview did seem to suggest the dark corners the child labeled as stupid.

When we heard of her relationship with Bobby Brown, most pondered how would someone like her even know this character, further, become romantically involved?

Either Bobby Brown was a nice Christian boy playing thug or Whitney Houston was not.

Whitney Houston was not.

She was born in a rough neighborhood in the projects of Newark, New Jersey. After the 1967 Newark riots, her family moved to a middle class area in West Orange, New Jersey.

Having come from a musical family there was no surprise at how her future would go, and the early years suggested she knew what she was doing.  This all unraveled when she became involved with Bobby Brown in 1989.

Whether she used drugs before she met him, she surely used them during and after the marriage.  Whether he brought her down to the street where she had been born or that was always in her and hidden by hype, is another question.

What the public has found so deceptive about Houston is that how she presents herself and how she really is are totally different people.

Her interview on Oprah Winfrey again betrays those cracks in the plaster.

Although it is easy to blame Bobby Brown, and believe that the divorce ended the sleaze aspect, how much of it was him, and how much was and is her?
