Oldest People Ever

When you were younger and you sat reading the Guinness Book Of World Records, their was always one record that people always went to. The oldest living person. In this article I will write about just the oldest people ever recorded.

As is common knowledge, women tend to live longer than men. This is just a fact, I do not mean to insult anyone with that, but if you look at my records you will see that this is true. There is also the fact that some countries have more people on the record than other countries. This could be because of perhaps lower living conditions than in other countries. Perhaps Europe and America will have more than say Africa. Also, places like Africa may not have as clear records of birth and death. However in this article I will give a list of the top three oldest living people, and a bit of information on them.

3) Sarah Knauss

Born on the 24th September 1880 in Hollywood, Pennsylvania, Sarah lived in the state all her life. She enjoyed knitting and working with fabrics. By the time she was a teenager she had already made her own wedding dress. She was an insurance office manager, but when she got married decided to stay at home. She had one daughter, Katharine Sullivan, who lived to be 101 herself. Sarah died on December 30th, 1999. Ironically, she never saw in the new millennium. She was Americas oldest person.

2) Shigechiyo Izumi

Izumi was born in Ryukyu, Japan. Like Sarah, this is where he lived an died. He was the oldest man, and the second oldest ever. He got married, and his wife died at the age of ninety. He died age 120 years and 237 days. This is a total of 44,037 days, surpassed only by Jeanne Calment (3). He died in hospital at 21:15 Japanese Time of Pneumonia.

3) Jeanne Calment

The oldest person ever to grace the earth, Jeanne was born in Arles, France, where she died 122 years and 164 days, a total of 44,724 days, surpassing no other. Her long life was said to be down to her extremely fit and active lifestyle. At 85 she took up fencing, and at 100 she was still riding a bicycle, however she was not a “Fitness Fanatic”. She lived on her own until she was 110, when a cooking accident, due to problems with her eyesight, meant she decided to move to a nursing home. She fell and fractured her Femur at 114 and 11 months with required surgery, but she survived despite her age. However this did mean she needed a wheelchair.  She got influenza just before her 116th birthday. She smoked from the age of 21 to 117, despite a source claiming she only had two a day.
