On Malignaggi, Pacquiao, and Steroids
by Proper social decorum demands that we should exercise our freedom of expression with refined and well-considered thoughts and moral responsibility. It is a self-evident truth that freedom itself is morally improper if lived to the fullest sense of the word.
He is arguably one of the current performers of the sweet science of boxing; he throws no hard punches, but the way Paul Malignaggi, 28, executes the sport is fine. However, his traditionalist embrace of the classic hit and don’t get hit style is now repulsed by the mainstream contemporary boxing fans. Even so, there are still a few boxing conformists who still take pleasure watching people like Malignaggi performs his approach at the sport, the fighting manner that runs contrary with Manny Pacquiao’s beloved, crowd – drawing, whirlwind and breathtaking style.
Just like any other diehard supporter of the sport in the planet, this writer draws a rapturing delight at the sight of Pacquiao in action, but maintains reservation for enjoyment at fighters whose primary fighting aptitude is purely hinged on outboxing and outpointing their adversaries rather than sending them off to the canvas as early as possible for good and for the greater delight of the crowd. Boxing being the “sweet science” is earned from the scientific style of those fighters like Malignaggi, former IBF World Junior Welterweight Champion. And on a personal note, he is a pleasure to watch.
What is something repulsive though about this New Yorker – Italian fighter is how he carries himself outside the four-cornered ropes. Indeed he fights well but in truth his punches bear no significant threat against the health of the prospective recipients of his punches, notwithstanding, he appears unwilling to learn a simple lesson on how to extend his opponents their due respect. This undesirable off-ring antics of the “Magic Man” was markedly evident in one of his recent interviews with boxingScene.com., courtesy of Ryan Burton in which Malignaggi speaks on Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, his ring date in a rematch come December 12 in Chicago. Malignaggi (26-3-0, 5KO’s) in an incredibly controversial decision lost to the same opponent in their first meeting at the bailiwick of Diaz (35-2-0, 17 KO’s) in Houston.
” He has to make an excuse for why he got an ass whoopin this time…I am going to serve him up a nice dish of ass whoopin all over the place…” Malignaggi said in utter display of disrespect to the former unified WBO, WBA and IBF world lightweight champion.

This Paul Malignaggi is a shame. He is not even closed to the level of skills of Manny Pacquiao considering the following: Malignaggi lost to Juan Diaz, who lost to Juan Manuel Marquez by KO, who lost to Manny Pacquiao. This Malignaggi also lost to Ricky Hatton via TKO because he don\’t know how to punch, who lost to Manny Pacquiao via a 2nd round annihilation. He also lost terribly to Miguel Cotto, who also lost to Manny Pacquiao recently via a 12 round destruction. I can\’t imagine what will happen to him when he face Pacquiao in the ring!

Being embarrassed on an earlier prediction that Cotto will annihilate Pacman, he tried to cover up with another baseless and a cowardly act by accussing a man deserving of the accolades of using steroids. that only shows that you are a boxer not worthy to be put side by side Cotto and Pacman’s caliber. I can understand why Paulie would say such a thing. This guy\’s claim to fame is being able to take a beating from Cotto and make it last 12 rounds. Pacquiao has been a unique fighter ever since he stepped into the ring for the first time. even at the time when he was starting to box, he was suppose to stay longer practicing with 4 rounder fighters but no…he immediately went with the 8 rounders and still come out strong, he fought one of the best pound 4 pound fighters in ledwaba in such short notice and still knocked him out. When he fought barerra I remember the comentator saying “you’ll never see 9 rounds of handspeed..”and it was only the 9th round, it went until the 11th. At those times I dont believe Manny can even afford to buy steroids,

All these people who accuse Pac of steroid use are just grasping for straws. It woukd be one thing is feather-fist Malignaggi was the one who, all of a sudden, started knocking people left & right. That would be a suspicious indication. But w/ Pac, he has always been known to have “pop” in his fists, even when he was still in the lower weight classes. It’s not like he had no power, then all of a sudden, developed power.

pacquiao grew up poor and malnourished. now that he can afford proper nutrition, best fitness trainers, best equipment; he has maximized his physical potential. when he started at 107 lbs (or whatever), it did not mean that this is the most his body could take, he just unfortunatley did not have the basic resources to grow and develop; ie: FOOD. he is VERY disciplined and trains non-stop, he plays basketball, chess, billiards, dart. so he is smart, fast on his feet and well-rounded. so it should not come as a surprise that as his physique improves, so do his skills.

good point there. i agree with the writer of this article. in the jimmy kimmel show where pacquiao guested recently the host showed a wooden stick used during the pacman’s training. manny said that part of his preparation is that he is hit with the stick to desensitize him from pain. that’s why he was able to take those hard punches from cotto. he was trained for that. malignanni? maligno probably. lol.
