Oops I Did It Again – Britney Spears Twitter Hacked Again!

Britney Spears fans were up in arms today as the Britney Spears Twitter account (@britneyspears) was hacked… again.

Britney Spears fans were up in arms today as the Britney Spears Twitter account (@britneyspears) was hacked… again. With so many celebrities and politicians using Twitter what are they doing about it?

The pop stars background and image was changed to represent a more demonic look (mostly just a red tint) and the Satan worshipping updates were posted:

‘I give myself to Lucifer every day for it to arrive as quickly as possible. Glory to Satan!’

‘i hope that the new world order will arrive as soon as possible! -Britney’

For the few hours after the hack ‘Satan’ and ‘#donthackbritney’ were trending topics on Twitter. This means whoever out of the 3, 755, 877 followers didn’t see the updates definitely heard about it. The updates were later removed and the images returned to normal. The twitter account was updated with the following:

‘Britney’s twitter account was just hacked. The situation has been resolved and we apologize for any offense the hacker’s messages caused.’

Security is one of Twitters many problems. In the past celebrities and politicians, including Barrack Obama, have been targeted successfully and the ‘Verified Account’ status has done nothing to protect them.

Britney Spears Twitter account has been hacked twice in the past as well. On one occasion fans were told Britney had died. Britney Spears Twitter account being hacked will be a tremendous joke to many online communities. But what about the damage it could do to her?

It’s unlikely anyone would believe that the Pop star really worships Satan (though I guess we don’t know for sure). It may however, force parents to stop their children following her on Twitter or using the account at all. I mean I wouldn’t want a child of mine being told their idol worships the devil.

No details about the security threat have been released by Twitter and no online communities have claimed responsibility. No other celebrity profiles are being reported as hacked so I think it’s safe to say it’s been fixed by now.

People are talking about the bad press this will give Britney, but it won’t really. Britney Spears Twitter account was hacked, but it’s Twitter who maintains the servers. The only thing Britney does is post updates and even then it’s most likely her PR staff. The problem here lies with Twitter but as long as celebrities and politicians use Twitter they’re placing their trust with them. And so far? That isn’t working out so well.
