Oscar Winner Rahman to Perform at Sydney Festival

A R Rahman is all set to perform at Sydney Festival 2010 on January 16 2009. Two-time Oscar winner, Rahman, for his work as composer and songwriter in Slumdog Millionaire, is the king of contemporary Indian music. Rahman has strengthened the stature of Indian music by creating a bridge between the music of east and west. Rahman also got the title of “Mozart of Madras” by Time magazine and has reportedly recorded sales of over 300 million. The Rahman concert at Sydney Festival 2010 is set for a free outdoor spectacular at Parramatta Park near Sydney. Rahman’s two-and-half hour exclusive music-dance performance will include more than 40 Bollywood dancers, singers and musicians promising a fantastic night filled with rhythms and melodies of contemporary India.
Forty-three other Rajasthani musicians from India will also perform in the “Manganiyar Seduction” concert in a whimsical ‘magic box’ at Seymour Centre. The Sydney Festival 2010, from January 9-30, will showcase exceptional dance, theatre, music, visual arts programs from renowned artists from all over the world. The other leading events of the festival are soul singer Al Green, Circus Oz, Dark Matters (Canada), Grizzly Bear (USA), Giselle (Ireland), Fin Greenall aka Fink (UK), Hamlet (Germany), Toumani Diabate (Mali), Oedipus Rex (USA), Marcin Wasilewski Trio (Poland), Sharon Shannon Band (Ireland) and many more.
