President Obama Admires Spock
Star Trek fans are everywhere, including the Oval Office. President Obama is a lifelong Trek fan who shows off his Vulcan salute on several occasions. The new film beamed into his new home, especially after his staff listed his Spock-like qualities.

One of the stellar benefits of being president of the United States of America is sitting in your own movie theater with access to any reel at any time you choose. Recently, President Obama eagerly chose Paramount Pictures new Star Trek film to watch at home. White House staffers likened him to Spock, the bi-species Vulcan with the amazing dry wit, quirky eyebrow and rigid penchant for logic as passions and emotions overrun his human counterparts. One must assess the situation personally to properly determine if the red-blooded human staffers got it quite right. During the 2008 presidential campaign while at a California fundraiser, Senator Barack Obama spotted the urbane Leonard Nimoy in attendance. He did not say hello. Instead, he raised his hand with the appropriate fingers split and thumb out in the perfect Vulcan salute. Upon taking the American oath of office, Mr. Obama went with the traditional human hand gesture, all fingers together swearing to protect and defend The Constitution. Due to a collapse in the world’s economy brought about by alien trading practices, subsequent presidential interviews made it clear because of deteriorating conditions he would boldly go where no human had been before.
On his first day in office, so many things did not compute. Lesser beings may have wished for a cloaking device. In tough situations, Spock took direct aim at a challenge and let the chips explode where they may. President Obama invites everyone to the conference table first and deploys his version of the Vulcan mind meld as a last resort.
Aboard the Enterprise One, Okay – Okay, Air Force One, President Obama gave an interview enthusiastically discussing the Spock the Younger, well played by J.J. Abrams in the latest movie. He fondly recalls his new generation youth watching the intergalactic politics on the original Star Trek television series. In those days the audience had to beam in on time to catch the entire show. During the interview, the president did not offer if he was married to his version of Uhura or which staff memebers most resembled the other characters. Newsweek reports that the president cemented his film fact-findings with the presidential Vulcan salute.
