Rapper Ti is in Trouble Again

Rapper TI and his wife were arrested in LA Wednesday night, Sept. 1, 2010, on drug charges. Officers smelled marijuana emitting from their car and it turned into a double arrest.

This is far from the first time that TI, real name Clifford Harris Jr., has been in trouble with the law.  He served seven months in an Arkansas federal prison and an additional three months in a halfway house in Georgia on federal weapons charges (Rapper T.I., wife arrested on drug charges, Associated Press).  He was just released from the criminal system earlier this year, in March, from those charges.  He is still on a three-year probation for those charges.  Also, he has been incarcerated for other drug offenses in the past.

Known as the “King of the South”, he has a very successful career in entertainment.  He is currently starring in the box office hit, Takers, which was just released last week and topped the box office chart.  He is also a Grammy-winning musical artist with a number of hit songs under his belt and one of the most profitable careers in music.  In addition, he starred in a MTV reality-based showed called, “T.I.’s Road to Redemption:  45 Days to Go” which chronicled his life as he prepared to serve his last sentence.

TI married his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle who is a singer and reality-TV star in her own right, earlier this year.  They were a couple for many years before their marriage.  They started dating in 2001 and married in a three-city ceremony in July of this year.  They have two children together.

TI has been publicly declaring that he has changed his life.  Just last month, he was quoted saying, “Right now, it’s all about moving forward and acknowledging the blessings that are here today.  Just moving past the regrets of yesterday – the things that could have been done better.”  (US magazine)

LA’s sheriff deputy, Mark Pope told the Associated Press that they were both arrested Wednesday night for possession of a controlled substance in West Hollywood during a traffic stop.  He was unsure if they were still being held.  Their bail was set at $10,000 each.  The “controlled substance” was not revealed.  (Associated Press)

Only time will tell what will become of these charges.
