Retirement: Ways to Prepare for It
Ways to prepare for retirement.
According to Mortimer Feinberg and Aaron Levenstein, the following are five ways to prepare for retirement:
1. Work with and prepare your successor. It will help you acknowledge your coming retirement, will serve as a transition period, and will enhance your record at the company.
2. Think of ways to use your business experience elsewhere. Perhaps you can try a new occupation, become a consultant or a volunteer.
3. “Develop outside interests and think of retirement as an opportunity to devote yourself to them.” By broadening your view of life and realizing that work need not be your only source of satisfaction, you’ll be able to view retirement positively.
4. Be prepared to readjust your business relationships. After retirement, you may not find it comfortable or wise to stay in touch with those at work except on a social basis when they take the initiative.
5. Find community outlets for your leadership abilities. Increase the time you spend on volunteer activities and serve on various community boards.

Thanks for sharing. I tell people all the time, retirement no longer means the end of work; it usually means the beginning of the work that you really want to do.
