Royal Weddings Around The World

April 29, 2011 is fast approaching and the whole world is waiting to witness the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Let us take a look at some of the royal weddings around the world. Prince William and Kate Middleton are going to tie the wedding knot on April 29, 2011. The entire world is keen to watch this royal wedding; let us take a look at some of the royal weddings around the world.

1. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert:

Queen Victoria was born on May 24, 1819 and was a monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from June 20, 1837 till her death in 1901. She married her first cousin, Prince Albert. Her reign was called the Victorian era. It was she who started the custom of wearing “white wedding gown” for the wedding; till such time, brides used to wear different colored wedding gowns.

2. Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson:

Wallis was born on June 19, 1896 and married Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor on June 3, 1937. Wallis Simpson was a twice-divorced woman and this created a constitutional crisis in the United Kingdom. This led to the abdication of Prince Edward; he was then created Duke of Windsor by his brother George VI. Another significance of this wedding is that it was attended only by 16 guests and the bride wore a blue dress.

3. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip:

Is there anyone who doesn’t know Queen Elizabeth? She was born on May 21, 1926 and married Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg on November 20, 1947. What is so significant about this royal wedding? They received 2,500 presents from all over the world; just imagine how much time it would have took for them to send a thank you note to all those who gave presents to them? It is believed that they still use many of the gifts that they received some 64 years ago.

4. Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones:

Princess Margaret is the youngest sister of Queen Elizabeth II who was born on August 21, 1930. She married a photographer by name Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Do you know what gift they received from Scottish noble Colin Tennant? They received a parcel of land in the Caribbean Island.

5. Prince Al-Muhatadee Billah and Pengiran Anak Sarah:

Prince Al-Muhatadee Billah is the crown Prince of Brunei, GCVO; he was born on February 17, 1974. He married the 17-year old Pengiran Anak Sarah and they are blessed with 2 children. Are you wondering what is significant about this marriage? They spent a huge sum of money for their wedding; it was an extravagant or a whooping 5 million USD. The bride carried a bouquet made of gold and diamonds.
