Sarcasm

A look on sarcasm from a different view other than your own.

Sarcasm is a way of life for some teens nowadays, however most people cannot tell the difference between sarcasm and a real insult. The difference in my opinion is that most insults are made from a normally mean natured person as to someone who is usually good natured is more likely to make a sarcastic remark.

In this example I will show a sarcastic remark and a true insult. Both starting conditions are the same. The names used are completely random and have no correlation to someone who has that name.

Sarcastic Nate: Wow these people are pretty.

Bob: Pretty ugly.

Insulting Nate: Wow these people are pretty.

Bob: Man your standards must be pretty low then.

The first situation is kind of like the corny jokes that a ventriloquist’s dummy would make and the second one is just bad natured. As you can see the first one is inoffensive and the second one is pretty harsh towards “Nate”.

In conclusion people use sarcasm without knowing they are and do so in a bad natured way making people who are sarcastic have a bad name over there head. By bad natured I mean like the insulting joke since “Bob may not understand sarcasm as well. Also most remarks are “quick”, and “witty” and can make people say things like: “OH, SNAP” “Oh, Burrrrrrrrrrrnnnn” or “You just got TOLD!!” . However in the end people should not use something unless they understand what it is giving people a break from people who say things like, “You don’t know what that means, a hahahahahaha…” even they don’t have a clue about what it is. I would like to make the final point of saying that a person who uses sarcastic without the knowledge of it should be told off in a kind way.

I think more people use sarcasm than we realize. My 36 year old niece told me not long ago, she was trying hard to be less sarcasric. She found out recently how many people co-workers and casual acquaintances she has offended without knowing.
One place I have found sarcasm can’t be detected is in writing such as email. It just comes off as plain rude even from someone who’s sarcams is well known to you.
    Good article.
