Seven Great Movie Star Mistakes

Roles taken by movie or television stars that were difficult to live down afterwards.

Pee Wee Herman: The Pee Wee Herman Show and Friends

I don’t even know this guys real name.  That’s literally how you would now him if you saw him on the street.  You’d be like “look,  its Pee Wee Herman!”  We all remember just what that role did to him.  He couldn’t even get a girlfriend after that.

Jaleel White as Steve Urkel:  Family Matters

I saw him in another movie once,  and he and it was actually pretty good.  I still couldn’t get over the fact that he was Steve Urkel though.  It just stuck too tight.  He looked like Steve trying to be cool.  (Stephan!)  I know he gets the “hey look its Steve Urkel!” treatment when he walks down the street too!

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow:  Pirates of the Caribbean

That’s actually a great series of movies.  I really don’t want to see him play anybody else after those movies.  They were just too good!  I probably should have put Edward Scissorhands here!

Halle Berry as Leticia Musgrove: Monsters Ball

Up until this movie,  Halle was my sweetheart .  I never quite looked at her the same after that scene though.  I guess I was like a jealous lover.  Halle!  How could you!  Just when I was going to forgive you for Baps!

Oprah Winfrey as Sethe: Beloved

Okay,  this movie had a good premises,  and I guess some people would look at what she did as heroic but in the end,  I felt like it just made black people look stupid.  To much slave jive and jibber jabber.  Even as slaves,  I dont think black people were ever that stupid.  I’m still mad about that one Oprah.

Pat Morita as Mr Miyagi: Karate Kid

This is another person I could never see as anybody else.   Those memories are to preciously pressed into my mind. (Wax On, Wax Off)  Hes a great actor though.  I heard he doesn’t even really know how to speak Chinese!  Doesn’t know a lick of karate neither!  I don’t care though.  Mr Miyagi is like a movie uncle.

Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa: Rocky 1,2,3,4,5, 6, 7, 8, 9…

This guy couldnt be anybody else on the screen if he wanted to.  That’s apparent from all the sequels.  And how does a movie character get his own monument?  Like he really beat Apollo Creed for the championship?  As long as that monument is there in Philly,  you’ll be Rocky Balboa buddy.

That’s funny, it’s true, when a person fits a character so well, sometimes it’s tough to see them another way – unless their acting ability truly outshines their previous role. Nice article!

    Blessings.

    Sincerely,

i wouldn’t expect pat morita to speak Chinese, especially as mr. miyagi considering both morita and his character are Japanese.

but yes, you make a lot of good points about pee wee herman and jaleel white.

(i think pee wee herman’s name is paul reubens, but i’m not sure. lol)

I don’t think I would call them mistakes as much as defining roles. How can it be a mistake if you play the role in several sequels?

With that in mind, I thought of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and James Doohan as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott.
