Suzanne Somers’ Sweet Sensations
Sugar-restricted dieters love SomerSweet.
Suzannee Somers survives family alcoholism, Hollywood ups and downs, and breast cancer. So it’s likely the feisty actress will also emerge triumph-fully from the newest controversy over her support of alternative medicine over treatment by the medical establishment.
But at least one of Somers’ health products creates little controversy. Many diabetics from all over America rave over desserts created by Suzanne Somers’ SomerSweet, her signature sugar replacement. At suzannesomers.com, SomerSweet recipes include velvet chocolate pudding, chocolate marquise, SomerSweet marshmallows, chocolate expresso gelato, strawberry rhubarb cobbler, and warm chocolate souffle cakes.
SomerSweet generally derives from two products, inulin and fructooligosaccharide (FOS). Inulin are simple sugar compounds created in certain plants. It is less caloric than sucrose or table sugar, and the bloodstream does not absorb inulin until it reaches the colon. FOS is often derived from inulin, and it too has less caloric value than sugar. Moreover, FOS may promote better digestion.
The possible pro-digestive qualities of SomerSweet provide a welcome contrast to other sugar replacements on the U.S. market such as various sugar alcohols and Splenda. Sugar alcohols are notorious for causing indigestion, gas, and diarrhea in many consumers. Splenda is also linked to digestive upsets in some people.
So despite the likelihood of stress over Suzanne’s health products dispute, she can relax with meditation and a luscious, SomerSweet dessert!
