The Arrogance of a Defense Attorney
The Casey Anthony Defense Team, et al…
I was watching the proceedings on “In Session” in the Casey Anthony trial today and I almost blew a fuse!
Cheney Mason, one of Casey’s Defense attorneys presented a standard motion for acquital statting that the Prosecution had not presented enough evidence or proof that she had commmited the crime she is accuswed of to warrant the continuation of the case. This is basically asking that the Judge acquit the defendant and set her free before the Defense puts on a case and anymore evidence is introduced to the jury. The chances of a Judge granting this type of motion or even setting aside some of the charges are slim to none and Judge Perry did not grant the Defense’s motion.
The trial will continue and the Defense will begin it’s case tomorrow.
What bothered me was the arrogance of Cheney Mason when he was speaking directly to the Judge during the presentation of his motion. He at one point stated, “Now you know Judge that the Prosecution has the burden of proving the charges…” and other equally patronizing and insulting statements. Of course a Judge that has not only held his position for many years and is the HEAD Judge of more than one county would know the law and certainly doesn’t need a defense lawyerr to remind him of what it is. Also, Mr. Mason is bombastic and haughty and appears to think that his excrement doesn’t stinlk (to put it as nicely as possible).
I noticed that when cross examining the few witnesses that Mason has confronted, he is loud and tries to provoke in an aggressive manor that could be considered argumentative and combative. He has been called out for these tactics on more than one occasion and I wonder if he believes that because he is considered “Famous” in the State of Florida and was named a “top Lawyer” by a magazine, that he thinks he can get away with behavior that the other lawyers involved cannot.
I suppose that I am a bit prejudiced because I believe that Casey is guilty and therefore I don’t like the people who are trying to get her off. The truth is that I have watched a lot of cases and at times I actually like the Defense attorneys. That is a rarity for me but it does happen when I find them to be playing fair and not belittling people or acting like they are superior to everyone else. Most of the time I find defense attorneys to be liars who twist the law and have been responsible for the terrible shape that our justice system is in currently. As I stated once before, since when does the US Constitution state that lying for a defendant is a requirement or even allowable in our court system. Defense attorneys make a mockery of the courts and and have proven to me that the law and the truth no longer go hand in hand.
I watched Cheney Mason in action prior to the Anthony case and he lost so I don’t think that he’s that special and his nasty, self-entitled attitude does not impress me in the least. It’s bad enough that there’s a good chance that Casey covered her tracks well enough not to be convicted of the crime that she is accused of and which I believe she is guilty of. To watch lawyers lie just as much as she does and destroy as many innocent lives as possible in the process makes me even more angry.
I am a little anxious about watching the Defense in this case because if their opening statement was anything to go by they will do a lot of damage before they are through and they will set the justice system back even farther regarding what is just and fair and what is bullshit even more than it already is.
My only hope is that this jury is listening carefully and that they will render a fair verdict. I am hoping that they will see through the lies and provide real justice for that little girl who died.
