Highly educational and impressive results: this animated visual representation of the size of planets and stars. If the Sun is a true enormity compared to our minuscule Earth, what about the other stars who are much bigger: Pollux, Arcturus, Aldebaran, Rigel … red and blue giant stars.

The most prodigious of these titanic wonders is VY Canis Majoris, the largest and most luminous of all known star. This have 2,800,000,000 miles in diameter, an amount so huge that it is almost impossible to imagine. To get an idea, a trip on a conventional aircraft, flying at 900 kilometers per hour along the surface to get around it, would require nothing less than 1100 years.
