The Clooney Factor
Modern Day Renaissance Man.
Actor, Producer, Director, Writer and Activist, It seems there is nothing that this man cannot turn his hand to and succeed at. Mr Clooney could also turn his hand to publicity as the confusion over whether he would return for ER’s Farewell season demonstrates. For months, Clooney was adamant that he would not be returning to ER and the producers refused to confirm whether he had even been asked to return.
But for those of us, who remember drooling over Gorgeous George in his blue scrubs, the wait was over last night as he and Juliana Margulies returned to guest star in the final series of the show that made him a household name. Susan Sarandon also guest stars in the episode which sees Dr. Neela Rasgotra (Parminder Nagra) and Nurse Sam Taggart fly to Seattle to retrieve an Organ. Clooney is as talented as ever as the compassionate Dr. Doug Ross. Sarandon is heartbreaking as the grandmother of the boy whose organs are being donated. As I watched I got flutters in my heart as Clooney and Margulies showed what great screen chemistry they had and that Ross and Hathaway were truly meant to be together. Clooney plays the scenes with delicacy and compassion and his performance was truly believable.
One wonders what this modern-day Renaissance man will set his sights on now, he has the Oscar in the bag, he has been named Sexiest Man Alive TWICE and helped elect the first black President of the United States and he has been named UN Messenger of Peace. So what is next for Gorgeous George? Maybe he will seek his own political office? He would not be the first actor to run for office, Ronald Reagan won the presidency and Schwarzenegger won the Gubernatorial race in California, and many others have turned their hand to politics. One thing is for sure, Politicians could learn alot about compassion and caring for the world from Clooney. So will he do it? The 48 year old Kentuckian says no. He has been quoted as saying “Run for office? No. I’ve slept with too many women, I’ve done too many drugs, and I’ve been to too many parties.” Well Mr. Clooney, Silva Zamora would vote for you if she could.
