The Infidelity of Tiger Woods

The article is regarding the recent revelation of the infidelities and transgressions of Tiger Woods.

Wasn’t it not too long ago we had a president accused of infidelity? And let’s not forget about other celebrities like A-Rod, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant who received quite a bit of media exposure regarding their transgressions. What about certain religious leaders who themselves were placed in the limelight due to their infidelities. Ted Haggard, Pastor, admitted to having a relationship with a male member in his congregation in January of this year and this after previously having admitted to other infidelities. Jim Bakker, Marvin Gorman both televangelists who’s infidelities was exposed by a fellow televangelist, Jimmy Swaggart.  Swaggart himself was later exposed to also be guilty of his own adulterous indiscretions with a prostitute.  So much for not throwing rocks if you live in a glass house. But anyway the point being, religious leaders themselves have failed to walk the straight and narrow so to speak, and yet we expect it of others.

If we continue too look to others to uphold our moral standards, we will always face disappointment.  Let’s stop placing so much responsibility on the shoulders of others to market and uphold our standards and values.  We should all try and manifest morals and values we can pass on to our children, not waiting for someone else to set the example.

WHY DO CELEBRITIES CHEAT?

The fact that a great number of celebrities, sports stars, wealthy and famous personalities, along with politicians and other high profile public figures have been found to cheat on their spouses, makes one wonder why? You would think with such a seemly perfect life there would be no reasons for cheating.  However, research shows that their reasons for cheating are the same as ordinary people.

Some of those reasons include simply feeding their egos, succumbing to the pressure of friends to go for it, along with possibly wanting to do different things that the mate might not want to do.  Then there are those cases of cheating caused simply because the opportunity was there and the thought that they just might be able to get away with it.  Whatever the reasons, the outcome has always been disastrous for all involved but more so for the spouse or mate.

How sad it is for Tiger Woods and all the other celebrities who seemly had a near perfect life and placed it all in jeopardy simply because they did not take the time to think before making a decision they would probably regret for the rest of their lives.   However, a look at the past shows that we have always proven to be a forgiving public, allowing the individual to overcome the consequences of his indiscretions and bounce back.  Hopefully, this will be the case with Tiger.

I dont know if I quite agree with you. Its naive and foolish to think that celebrities like Tiger Woods are no different than you and me. First of all, he is a household name and a world wide icon. His fame alone separates him from 95% of the population and his money separates him from most of the rest. then there is his appearance; tiger is no slouch, he’s a good looking guy in great physical shape. He faces the pressure of maintaining his #1 rank in golf and the pressure of having every shot he takes on the course scrutinized by every weekend warrior on the planet. Tiger has one bad round in one tournament and every golf analyst in the country is saying he’s lost his focus. On top of all that Tiger, I’m sure, has women from every city in almost every continent throwing themselves at him. so Tiger’s case to eventually succomb to the vanities of the world were inevitable just like so many other celebs including the ones you mentioned in your piece. I myself am indifferent to his situation; its not affecting me so why should I be angry at what he did?
Here is why I think the media and the people are out for his blood. reason 1: children. whether he likes it or not Tiger is a role model for kids all over the world. Once they see this kids start to glamorize it and talk about how they wish they could do what he did, trust me I’ve heard them talk. By coming out and publicly apologizing for his actions Tiger might be able to get through to one kid and prevent him from doing something similar. 2. advertisments-Tiger has been paid hundreds of millions of dollars by companies to hock their products based on his squeaky clean image. the loss of sponsorship doesnt put a dent in Tiger’s wallet but it sure does in all the shareholders who hold stock in the companies that dropped him, that’s personal now. the last reason people justifiably upset is the sheer number of women he had relations with. one is a mistake, two, three different girls is a shameful mistake; but 15 women? come on man, thats a serious problem no matter what you believe.
Finally, I agree with you that we shouldn’t be surprised when anyone in the media comes out and does something terrible because it happens all the time; but just because we expect it we certainly shouldn’t condone it and that’s the danger of having a blase attitude when it comes to these matters.

I will pass one thing on about Tiger- I came across a fantastic t shirt at http://www.relevanttees.com that you should check out if you want a good laugh.

If you cut tiger, he will bleed blood, not money. That makes him human. Being human makes you imperfect, just like you and I. My point, stop look for perfection in imperfection. I appreciate your comment. thanks for reading.
