The Life of Brittany Murphy

Brittany Murphy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 10, 1977. Her parents, Sharon Murphy and Angelo Bertolotti divorced when she was only two years old and she was raised by her mother. 

Murphy began acting when she was only 14.  She landed a role on Drexell’s Class as Brenda Drexell.  She also appeared on many other television series such as Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Blossom, Frasier, Sister, Sister, Party of Five and Boy Meets World.  She started doing the voice of Luanne Platter on King Of The Hill in 1997 and she appeared as the voice of Gloria in Happy Feet, released in 2006.

There were also roles in many movies throughout Murphy’s career.  She played parts in Clueless, Girl Interupted, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Don’t Say A Word, The Devil’s Arithmetic, 8 Mile and Uptown Girls.  She also appeared in a few lesser-known films such as Spun, Little Black Book, Sin city, Sidewalks Of New York and The Groomsmen.  

Brittany tried a career in singing in the early 90’s and she was also the spokesmodel for Jordache jeans.

In May of 2007 Murphy married Simon Sonjack in a private Jewish ceremony.

Unfortunately Brittany’s career was cut short on the morning of December 20, 2009.  She was found unconsious in the bathroom of the home she shared with her husband.  Her mother found her and called 911.  Murphy was totally unresponsive and was pronounced “dead on arrival” at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 10:04 a.m.  It appears as though she suffered a cardiac arrest due to natural causes but toxicology reports are still pending.  Some people are speculating that anorexia may have played a part in her death, although this is unconfirmed as of now.
