The Philippine’s Undefeated Enemy
This is a poem written by a young soul. A youth who knows that he do not have a loud voice to shout it out and so he got a pen and wrote it down. A message to my fellowmen. Written in the time of people power revolution in the Philippines.
“Philippines that is where I was born
Indio that is how I was called”
A slave that is how they treated me”
Yes, that and these are what my grandpa told me
“Spaniards came in my dwelling place
I thought of helping but they made us slaves
Then the Japanese came right after them
And treated us, as puppets of them
The Americans came with a helping hand
But the truth is to make this land
As a military base of them”
Now, who is the next to rule?
Everyone desires to be globally competitive
So, we accept foreigners here to live
But still the Philippines do not have peace
Is it because the Filipinos themselves are the enemies?
Some escaped and went abroad
Where they thought, they can earn some gold
They sacrificed everything they own
Even their love ones, they left them alone
Yet still there are some who stayed
Believing that here they can be great
Some of them are leaders and they rule
But ask them first, “do they know the rule”
My grandma told me about martial law
Where your will can never be followed
Yes, discipline is in everybody
But the freedom is in nobody
They were like wooden puppets on strings
And driven by a wood just like them
Now, we can not hide the proven fact
Yes, we the Filipinos are the enemies
The Philippines is for us Filipinos
So everything here is entrusted to us
But who deserves to be called trustworthy
If the owners themselves are the thieves of their country
So many leaders were born and have died
Even religious leaders in politics have tried
But none of them ever succeeded
Is it because even the voters want to lead?
Foy you, is money and power enough?
I thought freedom and peace is all you want?
Then why can’t we find this long lost peace?
Is it because the finders themselves keep on hiding it?
We are no longer slaves but we are not yet free
Our will was done and even leaders we command
Did the history repeat itself?
No! It is because the undefeated enemy is
No one else but ourselves
Liked it
