The President of The United States Sent Me an Email

It wasn’t everything I hoped it would be.

In other words, the President of the United States didn’t want to continue our discussion. He offered me a response, but doesn’t want to know what I think of that response. Kinda like a parent who puts their foot down and then isn’t interested in having a discussion after they’re done discussing. “Because I said so” and I’m the parent comes to mind.

I’m not mad at Obama. (in case he reads my blog…lol) I actually was surprised that “he” wrote me back. The fact that he did gave me hope. But what he wrote took that away in some ways. I’m back to ground zero. Nothing lost or gained.

To have a president write back and say that he hears me and then to also really grasp that even the most powerful man in this country, maybe in this world, doesn’t have an answer to my question, tells me so much more than I wanted to know about our state of affairs.

And while I consider myself to be a hopeful person, I understand better now that hope is really more of a connector than something tangible…..a way to rise above chaos and confusion and then to look ahead at “picture” of what MIGHT be, in order to keep myself plowing through the turmoil.

So, I am still looking for loose change between my cushions. Still REALLY excited to find a $5 bill in a coat I haven’t worn in a year. Still keeping my house a degree or two cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer. Still looking for ways to make sense of where I am right now and trying to to help myself through it without becoming part of the problem to do that. Still hoping like a starry eyes child that doing it right will eventually bring me to a place that feels right, not just in my head and heart, but in a practical way too.

President Obama has a whole country of “free” people who want to know what went wrong here and what is being done to correct this wrong. In many ways, we are asking him to step in and to take some of our freedom away from us…to BE responsible for this country as an administration MORE THAN we are as individuals.

UNTIL…..

things get better.

Then, we’ll want that freedom back, won’t we?

I for one have learned a lot of very valuable lessons about people and life and freedom this last few years. Lessons that have me give up trying to understand how we got into this mess, and to pay attention to just MY mess and clean it up the best I can, knowing that if we ALL do that, we’ll be better off. No use pointing fingers or getting mad at the guy ahead of me who gets to refinance right now because he was making $25,000.00 and able to borrow $300,000.00 to buy a home. I don’t have enough fingers to point or believe it’s worth getting other hands to join me with their fingers……

It doesn’t change where we are.

I’m sending my email to Santa next. I’ve been nice much more than naughty. I’ll keep you posted.

I seriously doubt President Obama actually sent this email. The White House has machines to answer most of his mail and to sign his signature. It’s a pretty old trick. All modern Presidents do it; but you are right that you have to be active in saving yourself.

I know that Guy. It’s not really a trick if I know. I just wrote this that way to illustrate “hope”.

Thank you for reading and commenting!!

Even though your return email wasn’t typed by the President’s very own fingers, it must have been a little exciting just the same. I have written to our Canadian Prime Minister a time or two and the replies were obviously not from his own hand, I still couldn’t help but be just a little tickled to see it sitting in my email box.

I was a single mom of 3 and I understand what it’s like to work too much, see your kids too little, and spend most of your time worrying about how you will keep things together.

    I wish you luck.
