The Tiger Woods Drama
Lately Tiger Woods and his relationship problems have been the highlights of the local and world news. When did gossip and scandal become news?
A few years back it was Bill Clinton and his scandal with Monica Lewinsky. Today it’s Tiger Woods and his women. While I can understand juicy gossip like the president of the United States having an affair is tantalizing to some people it’s still not news but just plain old gossip.
I am sickened by news reporters interfering in the private lives of famous people and celebrities. If someone went digging around in your closets what would they find? I don’t care if you think you are the most holy person on earth, everyone has secrets or skeletons in their closet. We are human, we have problems and when the media gets involved it only makes for trashy news and hurts those involved.
One day the world news is reporting on Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch and years later they are reporting on Brittney Spears shaving her head. Whether it’s parenting, sex, or etiquette our celebrity gods are constantly the center our of attention. Some people take joy in seeing them fall so that they may ridicule their lives.
Many people will say “well it’s the lives they’ve chosen so they deserve it”. Others will just feel sorry for them. What about the people who haven’t chosen fame? Some people like the “octamom” were forced into fame. And what about their children? Do you think the media will ignore the children of the overnight celebrity when they grow up? The children of celebrities are forced into lives of being in the constant spotlight.
Does the media not have anything better to report that they must shine the light on such trivial matters? If so, can’t they find something good to report like the single Mom that manages to work full time, raise her kids well, volunteer, and donate her time for good causes? What about the war heroes that save their buddies lives? These people only get two minutes of mention on the news. Yet, the news can find time to report on Tiger Woods issues so much that you can’t turn on the news without seeing something about him. I say the news should report the news and leave the trashy gossip for The National Equirer.
