Top 12 Millionaires
We know these personalities through the media, TV, and our computers.
-
Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey is first in line with earnings of more than $285 million a year. Oprah was born in rural Mississippi, in poverty to a 17 year old unmarried girl in 1954. She was raped at nine by a family member and was pregnant at 14. The baby died as an infant.
She went to live with her father while she was in high school and he was a strict disciplinarian, who she said, set her on the straight and narrow. Oprah found work at a news station at 19, which paved the way for her popular talk show that followed.
Oprah Winfrey has become the most influential woman in the world and one of the richest. She is the most philanthropic African American in history, and was a supporter of Barack Obama. She delivered over a million votes. The Governor of Illinois considered offering Oprah a seat in the US Senate.

Dr. Phil

Doctor Phil McGraw is next in line with earnings of $80 million a year. Even with his questionable bookings including Britney Spears and Nadya Suleman, with sales of his popular books he still brought in the millions. Dr. Phil was born in 1950 in Vinita Oklahoma. He was awarded a football scholarship to University of Texas and played middle linebacker. He owned a construction business with his brother while completing his Ph. D.
In 1983 Phil and his father joined Thelma Box in presenting “Pathway” seminars. 8 years later Phil McGraw sold Pathway stocks for $325,000 without notifying his father or Thelma Box. There were hard feelings and he was accused of reducing value of the company by selling behind the elder McGraw and Box’s back. Now he and his father seldom speak.
The Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists imposed disciplinary sanctions on Dr. Phil in 1989 for a inappropriate duel relationship with a client. The 19 year old said their relationship was sexually inappropriate. He is no longer licensed to practice psychology anywhere. Oprah Winfrey invited Dr. Phil to appear on her show starting in 1998. In 2002 he launched his own show produced by Winfrey’s Harpo Studio.
-
Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell earned $75 million and if things fall into place as planned, he will top that next year. As reported by the British Press, Cowell is asking for a $100 million contract to renew his contract on Idol.

Can you believe Howard Stern comes in 4th with $70 million? Strange but true.
-
Rush Limbaugh
Rush Limbaugh’s earnings are $54 million dollars. I can’t even make a decent comment on that man.
-
Donald Trump
Donald Trump earns $50 million per year, and I’m surprised, I thought he would come in nearer the top of the list.

David Letterman comes in at $45 million a year.

Nice article Ruby. Some of these on the top twelve are very surprizing. Well done and well written. Good job.

I’ve got nothing good to say about Rush Limbaugh either. Apparently he still has quite a following that is making/keeping him wealthy. I am surprised that Trump is not closer to the top of the list as well.

Ruby
Thanks for the enlightenment, dear. I could have guessed on Oprah and Trump. but the others come as stictly “knowledge” thanks to you. (But I don’t follow the celebrity crowd and haven’t watched TV since moving to Oregon last July..too much to do, plus my Dad is glued to his sports programs).

This is a great article, Ruby. I wish I were on this list. LOL! I didn’t realize all of these people would have made this list.

The most obscene one to make the list would be Dr. Phil and of course Howerd Stern. At least Stern will admit he his filthy and despicable at times, but the great hypocrisy here is Dr. Phil. What a sanctimonious hypocrite he is. There are other true accounts of his bad behavior in life and he should start spreading those millions around to really help people instead of helping himself off the backs of truely damaged people. His advice never seemed to impressive to me. Great article Ruby, making us aware of some of the idiots that line their pockets based on the misfortunes of others. Another A+ article here!

Great article Ruby, but one gripe. There is only one Brit on your list and you spelled his name wrong. It should be Cowell!

Thanks guys, George I’m so sorry about spelling the only Brit’s name wrong. I will fix that right away. I see another mistake you missed but I won’t tell you what it was. Thanks for pointing out the misspelling. Your help is always appreciated.
Richard, I’m surprised you were the only one to comment on Dr. Phill. I thought more folks would be interested in that bit of information. He is really not what he is cracked up to be.
Mistify, I didn’t mention Bill Gates because he is so far from the others. His earnings are in the billions. I believe it was about 75 billion last year.

Nice article, Ruby. I enjoyed learning about the background of these famous rich folks. I was surprised by Dr. Phil. He is not the person he would lead us to believe he is. How sad.

Ruby,
Excellent article!!! But doesn’t Stephen Kings qualify? I heard he makes anywhere from 10 to 100 million off all his books, and movies, videos, etc. You did a great job of writing this Ruby. I think we should tell some of these people we’re their long lost relatives and that we could use a couple million from them!LOL!
Great article. Keep up the great work Ruby!!!!

R B, I did miss quiet a few, Stephen King and John Grishan among them.
Sheila, I don\’t know why I can\’t be among them, too, but as rutherfranc says it\’s pretty much impossible earing the $1 from Triond. I will need to find a day job.
Duff, they are sneaky buggers. Nobody knows what they really earn. All joking aside another big thank you to all my friends.

Maybe we should pass the plate for rutherfranc. lol, but then I’m not earning a lot more than that. It is a good thing I’m not in this for the money. Interesting read, Ruby!
I have a lot of admiration for Oprah, but none for Rush. He should pay us to listen to his trash.
Take care & God bless.
