1. The Sleepless Man: Thai Ngoc

This is an unbelievable story of a man who claims he hasn’t slept for over three decades.  Yes, you read that right –over 33 years without sleep.  After getting a fever in 1973, the 65-year-old Vietnamese insomniac has lived over 11,900 consecutive sleepless nights.  His wife comments, “My husband used to sleep well, but these days, even liquor cannot put him down.”  He has gone through countless medical examinations and appears to be fine, except for a minor decline in liver function.  He spends his extra time farming, and reportedly spent the last three months building two large ponds to raise fish.  

2. The Man Who Will Eat Anything: Michel Lotito

This French entertainer is best known as “Monsieur Mangetout” meaning Mister Eat-it-all.  He possesses the incredible ability to consume metal, glass, and rubber.  In his lifetime he reports he has consumed a bicycle, television, and a Cessna 150.  The aircraft required around two years to be ‘eaten’.  He began eating unusual material while still an infant.  He has been performing publicly since 1966.

3. The Self-Elected Pope: David Allen Bawden

An American who was “elected” Pope Michael I by a group of six Conclavists argued that the elections of the last 6 popes were invalid.  Sedevacantists argue that if the College of Cardinals will not elect a valid pope, ordinary Catholics can do so, under the principle of “Epikeia” (Equity) To this day, he remains the first self-elected pope.

4. Insensitivity to Pain: Multiple People

This rare occurrence is caused by a mutation in the gene implicated in the synthesis of a sodium channel, which is mainly located in neurons linked with the reception and transmission of pain stimulus.  There are currently over 100 cases worldwide; however, the exact number is unknown due to misdiagnosis.  Most cases involve people who otherwise are totally normal, except in situations where one would normally feel a pain sensation. Supervision is required in cases that involve young children.

5.  Extreme Hair:Congenital Hypertrichosis Lanuginsoa

Since its discovery, around 40 cases worldwide have been documented.  Under these extremely rare circumstance the body is fully covered in hair from head to toe, excluding palms of the feet and hand.  For obvious reasons, this mutation is often referred to as the “Human Werewolf Syndrome.”  Not much is known as to what causes this mutation, other than there are cases of both hereditary and instantaneous mutation.
