Tribute to Michael Jackson – King of POP

A tribute to the king of pop music and lessons to draw from his messages to heal the world.

Michael Jackson who died two weeks ago will continually live in our hearts as an Icon. That exactly was the message we all could not deny as we watched the farewell ceremony held on the 7th July, 2009 at the Staples center in Los Angeles. We watched with enthusiasm how tears, eulogies were poured out for him and the beautiful songs rendered to bid him goodbye from mother earth by different great artistes of our time like Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Stephen Wonder, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, Queen Latifah and others who spoke glaringly well about the impact MJ has not only had on them but on the world.

The ceremony also witnessed the outpouring of emotional burst from different fans, well wishers and all those who were opportune to get a ticket to attend the funeral ceremony and even around the world from Asia to Africa and other parts of Europe. This is just a reminiscence of what happened during the death of Princess Dianna although Michael was not a royal but yesterday he was crowned a royal and will always be in the hearts of all his fans. O death! Where is thy sting? How l wish he could open his eyes to catch a glimpse of that day, to see all who spoke good about him even the government could not resist the temptation to credit his record as the representative of the lower House of Assembly acclaimed in her tribute to Michael Jackson and even went further to say they are pushing a resolution 600 in the house for him to be immortalized as one of the heroes of America who fought a good fight for the emancipation of America from racial discrimination through his music.

While he was alive he ruled the world of pop music which such dexterity like never seen and his dance steps became a synonym with Michael Jackson such that all young and aspiring artistes took a clue from him. As young as 5yrs l was already used to Michael Jackson music and especially his Album Off the wall released at the time when l was in my elementary years and till date l have remained a fan and lover of his music.  There is hardly any child born in the 70s that will not be familiar with MJ type of music and dance steps, in fact we had lot of Michael Jackson’s springing up everywhere trying to mimic and copy his dancing from my days in the university till this day. He was no doubt a legend of Pop music and no wonder the world is celebrating him not only as the king of Pop but as a philanthropist, wound healer, a father and an entertainer that ever lived on the surface of earth. Even in death Michael Jackson songs were still topping the world chart and selling millions of records, what a feat. He also preached against racial violence and discrimination, war, poverty and the rest asking politicians and the big economies to heal the world with their policies and make it a better place for our children and future generation unborn. His crying was like that of a child and little did they listen to him, perhaps if they did the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas would have been aborted and the crisis we are engulfed now maybe would have been kept under a manageable control rather than the bloodshed and killing of children everywhere leaving sorrows and pains behind all in pursuit of international interest. Unfortunately for Michael he lived in an age where leaders of the world are deaf, blind or pretend to be, they don’t listen to the angelic voice speaking to them in Michael Jackson, all they are concerned about their national interest and that’s why often they ignore the message. Instead what does he get in return, he was vilified, crucified, sentenced and condemned for expressing his love for children, in fact it is no longer news that he died before his time but what will remain fresh in our hearts was how the society he once entertained with his songs and dance turned back to hunt him to death. I remember seeing the picture of him on his fiftieth birthday, l wept and cried for this legend because he was not the Michael Jackson l use to know, it only baffles me how come he never died long before now despite his many persecution. Unfortunately for me this was one icon l never had the opportunity to meet. We failed to see his positive side while he was alive and dwelt on his mistakes as if we were ourselves perfect, the press mocked him like hell and joined to bring him down but that same press is digging deep into his legacies and paying glowing tribute to him, what an irony indeed.
