Twilight Star Asks a Fan to Strip

Robert Pattison, the actor that plays Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series, has expressed his regret at asking a fan to strip at a book signing.

The Twilight star was signing books for a line of fans, apparently bored of the event and signing book after book, with too little time to actually meet any of the fans during the process. When one of them asked what she could do to get his attention, he is reported to have said “Um… take your clothes off”. The distressed girl then started stripping before security dragged her away.

Robert Pattison has since made a public apology, although it seems doubtful that this will ease the girls’ embarrasment. With all the publicity and hype that surrounds the Twilight series at the moment, both the books and films, it seems doubtful that the event will have any lasting repurcussions.

Robert Pattison has found himself plunged into a world of celebrity stardom and is the subject for adoration by many teenaged girls. The Twilight series, and his leading role as Edward Cullen, has catapulted him into the public eye. While this is no doubt unfamiliar territory to the new star, he must learn fast that teenaged girls are easily lead and influenced and he must learn to pay due respect to his fans fast. If your celebrity status appeals to teenagers, learning to be careful with jokes and throw-away comments is essential.

Meanwhile, there is perhaps a lesson to be learnt by fans, teenaged or otherwise, as well. At a large scale booksigning like this you will not have much time with the celebrities. If you want to attract their attention, do something original – go in fancy dress or bring a gift. For people you only see on screen, it’s too easy to forget that they are not the characters you see on screen and won’t come out with the perfect scripted response that they do in the movies.
