We Deserve What We Earn Rant
I get frustrated with some of the teen age students… and some teens in my family as well… I try to get them to understand….
That we only deserve what we earn and we earn what we get.
If you rape a girl ( or guy), you earned the title of rapist and you deserve it.
If you slack off in school, you earned the failing grades, and you deserve it.
I get so … angry… yes, screaming mad…. when teen agers act like the adult world owes them everything on a silver platter, and then act like the adults should wipe the drool from their chins too. UGH!
I know that the concept of earning, and deserving can be hard for teens to swallow, but dang it all to you know where… I work hard for every material possession I have, I work hard for all of the intellectual possesions I have (knowledge) and I work extra hard for all of the relationships that I have and am involved in. NO ONE owes me anything. I earn what I deserve and I deserve what I have earned.
If you cause drama, you earn the title of Drama queen, and guess what?, you deserve it.
If you are a freakin slob, you earn the filth and you deserve it… do not expect some one else to clean it up.
Even some adults never quite get it, we only get what we deserve and nothing more. Sometimes we do get less, but never more than we deserve.

What a rant. You should feel better now! Some teens can make you lose your mind at times but we have to tell them when they are wrong.

I enjoy the idea of comeuppance. Those who do wrong eventually get theirs.

Some kids don’t think anything is their responsibility. That’s a part of growing up, to assume responsibility for our own life. Good rant!

That’s the frustration that many of us share. Too many people around who were not taught that they don’t really deserve most of what they get. Too many people around who were not really allowed to grow-up…the society should not baby sit them.

Eventually the come around with good adult role models. Annoying little buggers, but luckily, they have possibilities.

Fantastic! I agree we only get what we deserve. I believe I get what I deserve. I work hard for the money I make writing, if I didn’t do well enough and only made a dollar a month I deserve it. BUT I do work hard for everything I have, too.
I heard at the local public school one student got into a fight and through the iphone of another student. What are high school students doing with iphones and texting, that is riduculus! Only people who earn it should have one, they should not get one from mommy and daddy. Makes me mad wen I see what kinds of things these teens have today.

Every generation has its shortcomings in the eyes of those that came before them. My mother told me they were different in attitude most especially when they were kids–that they were more respectful and all.
Now I can see that my kids are also different as compared to me when I was a kid. They are more outspoken and willing to express their own thoughts.
And yes, they are one spoiled generation.
I think every generation has its own identity which is almost always different from those that came before them. The children of today are called Gen Y. Imagine how Gen Z would be when its their time to express themselves.
Yes, we get what we deserve.

Feel better now i bet, you give it to em girl. You are right the value of all is based around what we owe teens not what they can earn and it will change when they reach the real world. As long as you keep up the good message to them but try not to get too het up or you may be too ill to see the end result chuck.
Bless you and welcome back with a bang x

Oh! What a rant! Wish I’d said the same. You expressed so much of what many of us think. As I read it I thought: YOU GO GIRL!

I hear ya, I have teenagers too. Just yesterday, I started into one of my ‘when I was your age…’ my 16 year old said, “You always make everything about you!” Dramatic eye roll.

I have missed your rants and I have been through it too, some people think everything should be handed to them XO

The sense of entitlement that many possess, not just the young people, is directly attributable to the Obama administration and his liberal predecessors.

I liked the way you analysed the scenario thus:
I earn what I deserve and I deserve what I have earned.

This is a thought provoking one that would require a serious conversation as not all the glitters is gold and not all that is bad deserves to be judge as evil. Good share!

My brother drives me mad because he’s exactly like that; never earned anything in his life but expects the world to hand him everything on a plate.

One of the best rants I’ve read and I completely agree with everything you’ve said. My teenage sister was very spoiled as a child and now she expects everything handed to her. It can be very frustrating trying to get her to understand that you have to earn things in life. People like that learn soon enough that if they want something they will have to work at it. Thanks for sharing.

You are right, kids do take many things for granted, but everyone of them will grow up to face reality. It will be harder for some than others.

I hear your frustration. I have felt it too. In my most honest moments I wonder if I, as a parent, have contributed to the problem you ranted. Maybe a lot of us are at fault.

Angry but not necessarily right. Many kids growing up today will have a hard time, partly due to the greed and stupidity of the generation before them.
Taking your own personal situation and expanding it to include an entire generation of teenagers is understandable – but doesn’t lead anywhere.
The comment where a teenager said, “You always make it about you,” made me laugh. And cheer.
There, that’s upset everyone.
