What If Your Whole Life Depended on It?
From medieval times to recent times we can see a whole wide range of skills we do not see in ordinary people. But why are some people so good at anything and others not?
The first thing that shocks me when I read about medieval age is that the British Log Bow Men were able to shot a 90 KG bow. Most people weight on average 75 to 80 KG and even on the op of the bow they could now pull it.
People at that time were much smaller than we are today. 1.50 Meters and 1.60 Meters were the average size of any man. Of course there were exceptions too.
They used to weight very little because they were hungry, badly paid, they had to pay huge taxes and so on. They weighted at best 60 KG and 55 KG used to be the normal.
This means they had enough power to make almost the twice of their weighed in effort and only ants and few animals can do this. Top class body builders only with a lot of effort are able to pick up something far above their weight and those long bow men did it everyday until they “retired”.
Why were they so strong? Because it was of top important for them to be that strong. Their life, their existence depended on it. If they wanted to survive they had to be that strong, otherwise they had no job and they would probably be killed in battle.
They were that good not to show off, but because it meant death if they were not like that.
Some other people are extraordinary because they like to show off. We have many shoes today were men show off a super human strength far beyond the average man force.
Some people make a living out of it, but other people just do it because they like to show off.
Bruce Lee was that good because kung fu was the most important thing in the world for him. He trained hard every single day without stopping any day, he treated kung fu like the most important thing on earth and today he is the symbol of martial arts.
Take a look at this video:
Unless something is really important to you, unless it maybe even means your life, you will never be any good at it.

I like where this is going, it’s a powerful message to all of us, if we want to be good in something, we had to really work for it as if it is the most important thing in our lives.
thx for this inspiring piece Redburn
