What is Wrong with You?

A friend and myself were recently discussing our flaws or faults. Definitions of each are as follows:

Fault – 1. A defect; imperfection; flaw; failing. 2. A misdeed or transgression.

Flaw – 1. A feature that mars the perfection of something. 2. A crack, break or breach.

We weren’t necessarily speaking of physicalities but more internal issues. The things which the world cannot see outright.

My friend touched on their sadness inside and how the world saw them, treated them because of certain things missing in their life. Things so trivial and yet so important.  As I listened my heart hurt for them because my eyes can’t connect with what they feel on the inside and my ears can’t truly absorb the fears they have. In short, I couldn’t offer an outright fix.  We live in a cruel world and everything we have and have not,  do or don’t do are factors under the social microscope.

After our conversation was over I mulled over my own internal faults and flaws.  In recent years I’ve discovered that I am a clingy, selfish, nosey, afraid to be left behind, walked out on, divulger of too much too soon, worrier of what people think of me, afraid to trust, jumps in feet first and an emotional mess 5 days a week individual. Sure, the world can see my freckles and the nose I have fought so hard to disown but what it can’t see is the person I long to be.
