World’s New Tallest Man

World’s new tallest man, measuring 8 feet 1 inch, said he was searching for love as he was awarded by Guinness World Records in London on Wednesday 16th September 2009.

26 years old Sultan Kosen, blotted out the iconic Tower Bridge as he posed for snaps on the banks of the River Thames in his first ever tour outside his native place Turkey. He takes over the title from China’s Bao Xishun, who stands 7 feet 9 inches.

Kosen also has the world’s largest feet and largest hands, measuring 36.5cm and 27.5cm respectively.

Kosen was not able to finish his schooling because of his extreme height, but he works occasionally as a farmer to give some support to his family. “My biggest dream though, is to get married and have kids – I’m searching for love,” he said.

The extreme trouble of squeezing into a regular-sized car is one of the main drawbacks of his height, but he says extreme height is helpful for replacing light bulbs and hanging curtains for his mother.

Kosen has three brothers and one sister, all normal-sized, but his speed of growth increased from the age of 10 because of a tumor which caused too much growth hormone to be released from his pituitary gland.
