You know that it’s got to be a slow news day in Korea, or maybe not depending on how big a fan one is of pop Diva Mariah Carey, when one of the top news stories of the day, according to the Korea Times is about her lip synching.

Talk about lip service, huh?

The article reported that Korean fans of this popular singer are in an uproar over Carey’s lip synched performance of her songs on a popular Korean live music TV show that not only disappointed fans, but has also “raised a stir on the Internet.”

The 39-year-old singer, who was in Seoul to promote her latest album, appeared on the popular live music show, You Hee-Yeol’s Sketchbook this past week. From the album The Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, Carey performed two tracks, but according to the article, “instead of singing live as anticipated, she lip synched both of them in front of an audience who packed the studio.”

Hmm…and what was the name of that album again?

The article went onto say that “all performers on the program, which has been loved by many music fans, have made live performances until now.”

When it was learned that Carey had lip synched (I wonder who ratted her out) many fans, according to the article, who were at the show immediately expressed their disappointment on the program’s Website.

One irate blogger who took it rather personally wrote, “We are aware that she is an international star, but lip synching on a live show is unacceptable. The rumors that the sound equipment was not good enough just seem like an excuse.”

Gee, give the Diva a break. Maybe she was suffering from jet lag.

Nonetheless, these bloggers or netizens are ought for blood. To be sure, “some viewers even demanded that the producer edit the lip synched footages of the singer” the article went on to say. Wow, they must have been pissed.

Another blogger chimed in by writing that “viewers don’t just want global stars. We want a program that sticks to its initial goals and characteristics. If the show is just interested in bringing in famous singer who even break their own rules, we have no interest in watching it.”

Excuse me, who broke what rule?

Poor Mariah Carey. Don’t think she’ll be coming back to Korea too soon in the future.

And yes, this was one of the top stories in Korea on October 15, 2009. Nice to see that some people have their priorities straight.

That seems to be happening a lot with big stars these days. Korea must have been short of news that day. Nice work.

Wow. Top news story?? WTF indeed. Though I do despise lip-synching. Why did she even bother going to Korea?

I love Mariah Carey & she sang the songs at one point so I think it’s nice that she was there – - we don’t know what the sound system was like – maybe there was a connectivity problem, maybe she had a sore throat, we’ve all heard her sing live before – - her voice is incredible.

    Blessings.

    Sincerely,

    -Liane Schmidt.

Lady Sunshine, i guess Mariah agreed to go to Korea simply because of MONEY. Hate to say this but I’m no fan of her.. Hey Papa sparks, why don’t you do an article about Wonder girls, those Korean teens who popularized the song “Nobody”.
