In our life, we all make decisions. Sometimes they may be small decisions, while at other times they may be ones that will make a lasting impression on our life.
I have always been a believer of paying it forward. Not too long ago I wrote about a run in with a complete stranger, Pay It Forward
So what do you do when you are asked to give a dollar here or there? Lend a helping hand to someone who looks like they are struggling? Open a door for the person in front or behind you? Small things like this may seem like nothing to you, but to someone else they can mean the world. You never know just what a simple smile may do for a person. It sometimes brightens their day more then you could imagine.
I tend to be a rather private person when it comes to my own life beyond the internet. Not that anyone would find me to be extremely interesting or famous, but just because I tend to like being some what mysterious. So when ever I tell a personal story I tend to be a bit vague. So this case will be just like any other.
I have a friend who happened to lose her job a few months ago. She has been making ends meet by working a graveyard stocking shift at her local supermarket, along with the savings she had already set aside. I see her situation get a little worse each month. I hope for her sake that she will finally land a job close to the pay rate of the job she lost.
I thought to myself…what could I do to help her out? On a few occasions I have invited her over to my place for dinner. I know it seems like nothing, but that is one less meal she has to worry about feeding to her family. I have also offered to have her son stay over while she is at work on weekends so that she isn’t paying for a babysitter. My son is about the same age so it works out perfect.
Then I think to myself, isn’t there anything else I could do? Then Triond popped in my mind. I thought to myself, let me see just how many readers I can inspire to either donate or doing something productive. Anything, from $0.25 to even just a single dollar. A moment of your time. A kind word to a stranger. So I will put this to the test and see what good, if any comes out of it. If nothing, then at least I know that I have given some people a few things to think about. What comes around does go back around. The lord works in mysterious ways.

Nice piece. I donate a lot to Goodwill, as they were important in my recovery from an auto accident. Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers & Sisters, my University… while I give donations I never feel like it ‘cost’ me.
Thanks,
clay

An inspiring piece. We should all try to donate something to the needy. I donate a regular amount each month.

A note for all us packrats out there: donating is a great way to clean out the attic and feel good about it afterward. (I hate throwing things away.)

Yap having extra resources would be an opportunity to lend out a hand or some support. There are no approved therapeutic claims but you could feel that strange tingle inside your heart when you give out something.

i love this article and agree 100% with it. you’re so right. sometimes, little things like holding the door for someone elderly or weak may seem small but it can make their day too. or just to bring a smile to someone. these are all forms of donations. excellent article!!!

Great article! I donate a lot to people in need, my boyfriend and me donate our clothes and I work in a driving school and we have been getting a lot of African refugees that churches will sponsor there drivers education about half and then it is up to them to pay the rest, we help some of them pay for this service.I really wish we could help them all because America seems to take in many but teaching them the ins and outs of how to survive they are not very good at.

Great article. Part of our church ministry is to support the families living in slum area besides our church building. monthly we give a bagful of goodies to each family.

I am one of life’s ’soft touches’. Nearly everyone has benefitted from me at some time, except me!
