Don’t Feed The Fat Lady, Feed a Child

I heard a story the other day about a woman asking for donations to aid her in becoming the world’s fattest women. It seems her food bill is over $800 a week. I believe that people should not donate to her and send their donations elsewhere. This article is about ways in which $800 can be used for good, as opposed to supporting this woman’s selfish desire.

The other day the local radio morning show I listen to talked about a lady that is asking people to send her donations. Her request for donations is not for the typical reasons. Her request was for money to help her buy enough food to become the world’s fattest women. It seems that her food bill per week is in excess of $800. She has set up a webcam so that those wishing to aid her can watch her progress as she eats her way into the record books. Her boyfriend is facilitating the whole affair by brining her meals as she takes this journey to the extremes of morbid obesity. From what the DJ said, on the radio station, she has a website and a Paypal account to take donations.

This article is not about this misguided fat woman. In fact I will not provide any links to her website and request that readers of this article do not search for it. This article is about better ways in which to put your money to work in the form of donations. $800 can do a lot of good in the world. There are many real charities that would benefit from donations that a person would be foolish to send any donations to this fat women. If you are a person who has sent her money to eat herself into the grave, and live in the same country as she, you will most likely also being paying for her lack of judgment twice. You will also pay for this woman’s mistake with your tax dollars.

$800 could feed quite a few children in Third World Countries for a lot longer than one week.

In fact the fat lady’s total monthly food bill, of roughly $3200, could be used to sponsor just around 114 children through Children Incorporated. Children Incorporated’s sponsorship programs start at only $28US a month. This lady, on her way to this world record, is monthly spending the amount that it would cost to feed 114 children in developing nations.

$800 could help cure 2 people of leprosy. It cost approximately $350CAD, for The Leprosy Mission Canada, to cure a person of leprosy and provide them with after care. Leprosy is not just something we see in Biblical Epic movies at Easter, as it still exists in many parts of the world in modern times. Two people cured of leprosy for a lifetime or feeding a fat lady for a week? The right choice is fairly clear.

I think the lady and the people who support her are all nuts. Good reminder to everyone that there are better things to spend their money on.

Why would anyone want to become the fattest woman in the world. We don’t spend $800.00 a month on groceries for two of us and we eat well.

I agree, give your money to something worthwhile.

I wrote about this too. It is just deplorable for people to contribute to this woman harming herself. If it were drugs, alcohol, etc.. would people be so quick to aide her? I would hope not, but then you’d think that no one would feed someone to death either:(

That is the most selfish, horrible thing I have ever heard of. Shame on that woman for asking for help to kill herself. Why not just do it with a bullet and ask everyone to donate to the hungry of the world like any reasonable person would.

    Genuinely interesting article!

People must be so foolish to consider one woman attempting to become morbidly obese a worthwhile cause to donate to, especially considering the hunger experience by millions of others in countries around the world.

    Thanks for the great read.
