The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is committed to helping parents of Valentina Munoz Nohora girl kidnapped by strangers in search of a channel of communication with the kidnappers who took her last week in the town of Fortul.
The ICRC communications coordinator, Pascal Jequier, reported that the search for this contact was requested by the girl’s father, Jorge Enrique Muñoz, Mayor of the town of the department of Arauca.
“The family asked us if we can do something about this kidnapping,” said Jequier, and noted that, as in similar situations elsewhere in the world, the ICRC can “make contact and eventually facilitate the release, but not more, “the spokesman said.
The ICRC received the petition in conjunction with a regional mobilization for Nohora Valentina, which included simultaneous student demonstrations in the city of Arauca and the other six municipalities of the department.
The girl, 10, was taken captive on September 29 by two masked men who boarded just outside Fortul public school in fifth grade who attends with his mother, Pilar Gutierrez, who was released later.
The authorities have not established whether the kidnappers are now guerrillas, paramilitary groups or common criminals.
In the region operate the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and National Liberation Army (ELN) and paramilitary bands origin.
